Remember 5 years ago when cars did not have heated seat and autodimming mirrors and fancy film on windshield and etc, etc, etc????

What did we all do 6 years ago?

My Mustang has Manual steering, manual drum brakes, lap belts, no air bags, 2 speed wipers, no sound deadening, no head rests, no traction control, 3 forward gears, manual door locks, manual cranking windows, and seats that have one option for movement (forwards or backwards) and I love that thing.

Satellite radio??? Try AM with 1 speaker in the whole damned car!

500 different options for dash colors???? I am lucky to see the dash in the dark in my 65 and I could care less.

No IRS option???? What is IRS? 2 sets of leaf springs, 2 shocks and a panhard bar are all I need.

Delete the radio antenna? You are implying that you are listening to the radio in the first place. Evan with my radio turned all the way up, I can not hear it over the engine and exhaust.

Sissies.

Same for my old Plymouth, cept I added disc brakes so I can actually stop now...

Still, I'm guessing your 65 doesn't have a lame prop rod for the hood.

options (even when you don't get them) drive up the production cost of a vehicle. seriously, you can probably install most of these things cheaper or at a comparable price on your own/custom.

aftermarket heated seats suck, and the controls are ugly. And it couldn't drive up production costs much... it's not like they don't use the technology on other vehicles they already produce.

Hey - If you guys don't want the options then don't buy them...

I can't help but wonder why you would even consider an S197. With all those creature comforts like PS/PB/PW/AC... Not to mention safety things like side air bags (optional) front air bags, ABS, side intrusion beams in the doors, rollover protection in the A-Pilars, etc...
If you want to live in the past - spend your money on a 64-73 Stang and leave us to enjoy some of the fruits of our labor and technology available today..

It's all about individuals and their particular tastes and desires... Henry Ford lost a lot of money because of his lack of respect for individual tastes when he said this "You can buy a Ford Model-A in any color you like - as long as it's black"...
Chevrolet, Dodge Brothers, Chrysler, Packard - they were hot on his heels and took many sales away...

So Go ahead and remove all those creature comforts and safety items from your S197's - all in the name of being "A MAN"....

I bought a Lincoln so I could have all that crap.

Everyone here jumps on the "the new Mustang is too heavy" bandwagon in one thread and starts asking how to remove weight from the car. The next thing you see is how everyone wants extra goodies on the car that add weight.

If you want a sports/performance car, get one, if you want a luxury car get one. If you want a luxury performance car, get a CTS-V.

If I wanted a lightweight racecar - I would have bought one...

Hey - Wait a second - I DID!!!!

It's called a Factory Five Roadster - the heart of a Mustang and the soul of a Cobra and it is an absolute BLAST to drive...

So - you see - it's all about individual needs and tastes.. The one thing we all have in common here is that we are gear-heads and Ford-Centric...

If you don't like the look of the antenna just stick a Jack in the Box ball on it and move on. Or clip it, replace it, fill in the hole, stick a coat hangar to it, fly a flag from it, dry your underwear on it, put a fox tail on it, do something with it, but son't you think you're being a little picky. If you want a car that has everything just the way you want it. Take what you have and make it that way.

I've been a loyal Ford customer and stockholder for over 25 years. Overall I'm very happy with my Mustang. I have a few complaints that hopefully Ford fixes in future Mustangs.

1. Lose all that computer control. Mustang drivers love to MOD their cars and don't want to retune everytime they do so.

2. The Shaker 500/1000, You guys bent us over and did us dry on that one. I paid $1400 for that piece of crap trash and didn't even get kissed.

3. Bring back the optional lighted vanity mirrors. (I'm so vain)

4. Fix the seats so that when someone gets in or out the back seat the front seats return to their original position.

5. Make the door pockets useable or lose them altogether.

6. Put the lock back on the glove box please.

Thats it, Thanks for your time

As another loyal Ford customer and stockholder for over 25 years I can absolutely agree with most of what you've suggested there ruffy....

but I think that you've really missed what all of the advantages of a computer controlled and monitored vehicle are.

The main one for the car maker of course is the emission control ,,, not to mention the performance aspect.

HEY! And speaking of performance and getting bent over??? how about that Ford Stock these last 6 months?

1. A cubby hole for small stuff, Im useing one of the cup holders now, but sometimes we get 2 drinks, then all the small stuff goes in the console.

2. Agree on the trunk release, the focus/Taurus has them.

3. Aux inputs on the stereo, jump into the present.

4. More than 2 performance choices. 200hp base / 250hp deluxe / 300hp GT / 350hp SVT / GT500

5. More chrome or none at all.

militarymustang:

I believe if you re-read the initial post you'll find this quote:

"Yeah, I know - - - if it bothers me that much then I should shave the fender and be done with it - - - but really can't Ford do better from the factory ?
At least on the yet to be released upper $$$$ SVT/BOSS/MACH/SHELBY models ?"

The focus of my initial thoughts were to provide StangNet members with a venue (thread) to gripe about the small inconsequential stuff so that Ford could hopefully address those "problems" in future editions and model years.

And thanks to everyone who took this thread in the initial spirit in which it was intended.

Do you remember back before indoor plumbing and toilet paper were invented?

When you start relieving yourself in a hole in your back yard and wipe with leaves, then I'll buy your argument - you sissie.

My Moms 2001 Grand Prix has heated seats, rear glass antenna, auto dimming rear view mirror, radio controls on the steering wheel... etc

There is no excuse when a dying brand like Pontiac can do it 4 years ago...

I made a thread about the Antenna a year or so ago, seems people don't really think the ugly football post sticking out of the hood is a problem... I on the other hand hate the antenna, and don't even use it. 50resto sells a delete plate, I will buy one of these soon as conventional radio died a few years back anyhow.

Branches are the best...

They get the hard to reach places real nicely.

Pine cones are like generic toilet paper. Lots of scratching and scraping, but never really gets the job done (if you know what I mean)crapola

When the first spy shots of the new Mustang were released I was certain Ford would make a ton of money on this car and skyrocket their stock. So I pluncked down another $5000 of "F" and it has gone down even further despite skyrocking Mustang sales. I should have added that to my downpayment. Recently I read an article that said Ford makes very little money on selling cars. ( Now aint that sumptin') They get most of their profit money from their finance company and what they earn on cars is just a drop in the bucket.
