Deleted EGR, Vaccum line?

is deleting the EGR a good idea? i've heard that it isn't as it screws w/ your gas mileage; however, i've also heard it improves performance by not sending hot air back into the intake manifold??!!?

Deleting EGR is generally a bad idea. It is shut off at idle and WOT, so performance is not affected. It actually improves gas mileage by allowing the computer to cut back fuel and dial in more spark (it sends fuel rich exhaust back through to be burned again). The only reason to delete it is if it breaks, or your intake is not setup for it. Or you might break the tube doing a heads/cam swap like I did, lol.

I didnt think this stuff still applied when you tune the computer. Maybe removing it and keeping the computer stock as is....

I didn't buy it for mileage, but 180 miles to the tank is pretty bad, lol.

Deleting the EGR from the computer will get rid of the part throttle pinging, but it won't give your gas mileage back because that fuel richened exhaust that was being reburned is now just being wasted out the exhaust.

That's about what I get. It's around 15mpg for me. But that's why I have a bike, for gas mileage, lol.

Lets tell everybody that EGR in no way affects performance! EGR is not functional at idle or at WOT so track ETs will not be affected. Chris, as you were hinting at with your computer comment, I put my EGR back on and my pinging problem stopped. You mentioned gas mileage, mine increased back up to 180 per tank intown driving after reinstalling EGR! How's your car running now?

wow, i was getting about 180 with mine disconnected and now im back up around 250-270 after hooking it back up. that was before the h/c and i have not filled up since the swap.

I plugged my vacuum lines with golf T's. The only reason I deleted my EGR is becaue I broke a bolt in the intake, and had great difficulty drilling it out. It seems that not only is the typhoon intake made of chinese pot metal, but the bolts are too! Good luck.

Mine broke off doing the headers. I've noticed my gas mileage has dropped ALOT. Ironically I would've thought I'd pick up better gas mileage from doing the entire exhaust. I didn't think deleting the smog/EGR would've had such an effect. My 02's seemed fine when JR checked them out too.

It's not running actually, lol. My voltage regulator went out (I think that's the problem) and it overloaded my alternator cable and melted it. I had to buy a new stator plug, voltage regulator plug, and voltage regulator. I got them in yesterday, but haven't had the time to replace them. No worries though, I'm riding the bike around. 77mpg last tank!!

Oh yea, if my EGR tube wasn't cut in half I would so hook it back up. 180 miles to a tank (14-15mpg) is not cool!

i pulled the codes and the only one i got was 334--EGR. no, i didn't buy my car for high gas mileage, but seeing as how some of you guys replaced the EGR and got better mileage makes me want to go to the auto parts store and pick up a new one. i drive at least 60 miles a day, so i will definately welcome anything that will improve gas mileage.
