Detroit Lockers

Has anyone here had any experience with a Detroit Locker? I've been researching different rear end options to go with my new axles, and was set on getting a full spool, but people keep talking me out of it. I don't want to spend a million bucks, either. Otherwise, I would have already bought an ected differential. Anyone have any good traction ideas?

I can get a pretty good deal on a Detroit. I was just wanting something that would actually allow me to get through a drive-thru once. Summit has some pretty good prices on Auburns, so I might just go with one of those. This is hard!

That sealed the deal for me. Now, my last question (I hope), is I see the lockers that are a whole center chunk, and some that look about like my mini-spool. I understand that running the EZ-lockers leave me to trust on the carrier to not blow up, while the whole assembly should be pretty much bulletproof. The EZ-lockers are much cheaper than the full assemblys are. What would the odds be of a stock carrier breaking? I'd be getting a hardened cross pin, because I've already broke one of those before. Also, I currently have a 28 spline setup with the mini spool in it. I'm upgrading to 31 spline stuff, and already have Moser axles with c-clip eliminators on. If I did end up getting the EZ-locker, would I be able to pop it into my current carrier, or would I have to get a 31 spline carrier? Seeing as how it's just the side gears that determine spline count, is there any other differences in carriers?
