I'm sure this has been asked before but I didn't have any luck when searching. Anyway I have a few questions, my first questions is:

Will this tuner work for my car (97 GT) even though its not a 98? http://www.shopatron.com/product/part_number=U7146/617.0

If it won't work for a 97 GT why not?

Do you have an OBD II port under your driver dash for the Predator to hook into?

Is there any truth to the 15-20 rwhp gains it claims to have?

I think GT's get about 8RWHP @ 12RWTQ maybe. I got 13RWHP @ 12RWTQ with my Predator tuned in. Not sure what you get with the basic canned tune it comes with. I would'nt try it with your '97, you can screw your engine up enough even when using it on the right engine if you don't know what your doing. My tune was done on a Mustang dyno, so on a Dynojet, yes the 15-20RWHP is possible.

So when I get a few more mods on my car is it better to get it custom tuned or dyno tuned? And what are some good places for getting it custom tuned and dyno tuned at? Thanks.

I asked the same question a few days ago. I think the general consensus is that if you have a blower, dyno tune is extremely beneficial. If you have fully bolt on's only, then it is minimal gain. Correct me if i am wrong, but that was what i got from everyone that responded.

Dyno tuning will take full advantage of a vehicles modifications and tying them in, on top of being able to nail down the air/fuel ratio.

On a bolt on car, the difference usually is minimal between a dyno tune and a well-made flash tune. Reputable tuners can make a very good mail order tune for flash tuners.

On a forced induction, or even a cammed car a custom dyno tune can really make a big difference.

There is a very reputable tuner in my area that does custom tunes for $350. $25 or $50 (cant remember which) to make adjustments to the tune, and he garantees the tune to produce good results. That's less than a flash tuner and will extract more hp.

It comes down to the fact that you take it to him to get it tweaked and pay a little each time, or that you can tweak your tune yourself with a flash tuner for free.

Thanks for all the help. I just have one question left... Is there anything else I can get to control how hard the shifts are or what temperature the fans come on at or anything of that other good stuff?

A handheld tuner is GREAT for making everyday tweaks if you run nitrous or boost - but the best way to get something to tweak, to begin with, is to go in for a dyno tune. They can even out your powerband by playing around with your fuel maps and, most importantly, make your A/F ratio even across the board.
