Diablosport question

I just got a didablosport tuner from my buddy only used once and a bbk off road x pipe for 125.00,cant beat that right? Anyway he has an 01 bullit and after installing the predator tune,he cracked a piston and blew his engine.This is with the performance tune they give you preprogrammed,he didnt mess with anything at all. Im guessing his car was pinging and he could not hear it because his car is so damn loud and I dont think he was running 93 octane either .I put the performance tune in my 04 gt,all stock except for a k&n drop in filter.I filled up with shell v-power 93 octane and Im pinging on the top of 3-4 gear(manual trans).Ive went in and modified the parameters and retarded the timing (I dont really understand that to much on the tuner even though Ive read alot of threads on here)I think I was at -1.5 in the 2-4000 and -1.5 on the 4-7000 and was still pinging.I even added a little fuel and still the same.needless to say,I put the factory tune back in.Losing an engine over 10 hp is not worth it to me.I went on the website and seen there was an update (r50d)and was wondering if this would maybe fix it?Has anyone had the same problems im having?TIA!
