Well I had the car out today trying to diagnose whether the noise Im hearing is pinging or something else. Anyways, I got a little sidetracked and thought I would try a 2nd gear burnout. I mashed the gas and the RPMs jumped up somewhere around 6K or above for a second, then I had to let up cause I was heading straight for a ditch.

After I got it straightened out, I noticed it had a pretty bad miss and it wouldnt stay running unless I kept my foot on the gas. When I got back out on the highway and accellerated up to 60, I looked behind me and saw a huge cloud of smoke, kinda whitish blue I think it was. I limped it back to my garage and shut it off, checked the oil and coolant. The oil looked ok to me, but it looked like maybe there was some steam on the dipstick...

I let it sit for about 5 minutes and started it back up. Now its running just fine, like nothing ever happened.

Also, about 5 min before this happened, I was changing settings on my chip and accidentally went back to the stock setting. When I hit the gas it popped several times and devoleped the same miss right before it died. Started it back up on the correct setting and ran great.

What are the specs on your valve springs? Maybe you floated the lifters which would cause them to pump up and keep your valves from closing all the way untill they settle back into there natural position. That would explain the miss (no compression). If that was the case, then everything would be back to normal after they bleed back down which takes about 5-10 min if you aren't running the car.

If that's the case, thanks your lucky stars you still have your exhuast valves

Straight from AFR's site,
"1.550" OD Roller Dual Valve Spring w/ dampener, 210 lbs on seat, .670" maximum lift"

My lift is .600"/.608". I can't remember for sure, but I think Jesse(Yellow1995cobra) had upgraded springs installed when he bought the heads.

Could it be a problem with the plugs? I just noticed AFR recommends the Autolite 3922's and I think I have the 3924's installed.

Thats nuts on the stock style lifters. As for the plugs, I couldn't answer that one.

3922's would just be colder than your 24's and would be used if you had a power adder.

Now that I think about it, I didn't notice my usual pinging/rattling noise when it was missing. Could both problems have been caused by a rocker that's a little too tight?
