i did it today with a 47K ohm resistor inline. now, i cant tell exactly, but i MIGHT be pinging. is this normal? would i expect pinging? maybe switching to a 20-30K on would be better? i think i feel a difference, honestly, but i only drove it for a little bit.

All the mod does is stop the ecu from pulling timing based on IAT temps..The pinging is because the car thinks the air outside is really cooler than it really is,in turn not pulling or adding timing to the car..

Are you trying to ruin your car? Just take it in for an SCT dyno tune and be done with it.

I wouldn't mess with anything dealing with the car's electronics.

What octane fuel are you using? I am not certain if the increased resistance causes a lean condition or advances the timing (or both), but higher octane fuel might help. I installed a series resistor on my previous vehicle (Ford ZX2), and it ran OK for a while; it may have made it slightly quicker, but it was back in 99 so I am not sure. It is definately not a substitute for a proper tune. BTW, you may try to connect a potentiometer instead of a fixed value resistor; that way, you can experiment with different resistances to achieve the best performance. This should only be temporary; after about 90,000 miles, my ZX2 would stall at highway speed for no reason at all, and it did some other funky things. I am fairly certain it was due to the resistor mod.

im using 93 octane. im certain its just from the raised compression i have, its just touchy. i picked up some 33K and 22K ohm ones today im gonna mess around with.

i would get a tune (and i will) but i dont have the money to blow right now.
