I have not decided on painting the engine bay yellow or flat black yet, but I wanted to start cleaning it up. I'm still waiting my short block from fordstrokers.

Anyone know where I could get a good deal on a 28oz lightweight flywheel & balancer?

Welcome to SN....:nice:

Flat Black??? I would think that would be a pain to keep clean???
Drop me a PM....I have a nice 28oz Romac I'd part with... think I have a flywheel also... Building a 331 myself and have extra parts hanging around...

In fact, if you spend a good amount of time cleaning that engine bay, it probably doesn't need to be painted at all. The paint in there just gets really dirty.

Looks nice. I would paint it yellow. I've seen engine bays in flat black, and it just looks like the car had a crappy paint job.

Everytime I see a car with an engine bay that is painted a different color than the body I think the car was wrecked or the owner was too lazy to paint it properly.

Kind of off topic... why are you getting a new engine? Your sig says that you already have a 331. Did something happen with it? A guy I know has been waiting for what seems like a year on his shortblock to be done by the same place you are using. I hope you don't have to wait as long as he has.

Well, you all kinda hit it on the head.I was being lazy, but really I was thinking about saving money. I'm on a tight budget and it didn't include painting the engine bay.But now that i'm not going to have the car done for mustang week, I can slow things down, save more cash and do it right.

killercanary, my 331 in my sig spun a cam bearing , cracked the block in two places and broke the cam in half. I still got to enjoy six years out of it, shooting a 150 shot almost every other weekend. I have a buyer for the crank, rods and pistons which are still in great shape. I wanted to try a 347 with a custom jay allen cam this time around. When I ordered it three weeks ago, they did say they had a little wait, so I ordered there DIY [ do it yourself ] kit which shouldn't take as long as there complete short block. WE SHALL SEE!

Killercanary, WOW! Your times are great. How much HP are you making? What cam, fly wheel , etc, etc?

Thanks! As for power, I'm not sure what the current combo is making. It made 380rwhp/380rwtq with the following:

-dart block 8.9:1 compression 331
-scat 4340 forged crank internally balanced
-scat 4340 H beam rods with ARP 2000 rod bolts
-SRP forged pistons
-pioneer SFI balancer
-fidanza aluminum flywheel
-75mm fox style accufab TB
-Holley systemax II intake, lower ported by TMOSS
-AFR 165 60cc pedestal mount heads
-1.6 RR's
-FTI cam from my old stock 302 shortblock
-ASP pulleys
-1-3/4 headers with 3" primaries
-3" into 2.5" Dr. Gas X pipe
-2.5" cat back with dynomax welded ultraflow mufflers
-promotion kustom clutch
-TKO trans
-alum. driveshaft
-4.10 gears
-AEM stand alone

I swapped the AFR 165's for a set of AFR 185 comp heads with a 58cc chamber which bumped my compression to 9.0:1. I also added a set of probe shaft mount rockers. With this combo I ran a 11.50 at 121mph. I plan to dyno it sometime this summer just to see what it is making.

Now thats a nice setup. If my car would run 121 mph on motor I wouldn't need the gas!:nice:

jromeo, heres a pic of my engine bay this past weekend... i was on somewhat of a budget and wanted to clean the bay up for the time being... i wanted to cover up some light rusting, plus i wanted the somewhat old school look going on... wish i couldve done what Adam did to his engien bay, but again i was on a budget and its my DD

I don't know, you have matching gloves, so might as well go for a matching engine bay :D A freshly painted yellow engine bay would be the hotness.

Oh, and Paul's setup is freakish. It's a nice goal to shoot for, but I'm still stumped as to how he gets that kind of performance. I'll be happy with the 1rwhp/cube rule.

Hey, let me borrow those 30# injectors you got there.:D
I like the black intake & valve covers, looks good! A little bit down the road I plan on powder coating my holly black.

I have a guy coming over this weekend to move or hide some wires and prep the bay for the YELLOW paint. I hope it comes out good.
