no i kept mine in, i actually beleive it is to direct airflow, and make sure the air flow stays in the path is should.. flows like it should, regulate the air.. i say keep it in..

when i installed my paxton supercharger on my 4.6 they even said to leave it in..

That screen is to prevent large objects from entering the intake and possibly damage the motor or MAF in case you run the car without or a damaged air filter element.

I removed it on my 02 explorer and have had no problems.

I've had many different home made cai setups .......
some of them with stock tb/maf and aftermarket tb/maf.

I've not used that screen on any of them.

Didn't seem to matter

I've seen the stuff about it helping to ............
direct air flow
keep reversion of air flow down
yada yada yada

However the most successful home made cai (highest air flow value datalogged) I ever rigged up was when I had my little self ported E7 combo

I had the maf coupled directly to the tb

No little screen then

Seems to me, if I was gonna have any kind of reversion I would'a had it when the maf was 3" away from the tb

Take the info and do with it as you wish

If anything I think it would block air flow, not direct it.

That screen looks like a restriction you can do without.

looks to me like it restricts airflow, i dont see why you would need it, your filter should do the job on keeping stuff out
