I blew the differential up in my 8.8 rearend. I could just put a completely new rear in there but a friend of mine says I can just put the differential from a Ford Ranger in there. He says even though the actual casing is different (longer driver side axle) that the differential is still the same as the Mustang 8.8. I thought this wasnt even an 8.8 rear but he says it is. So, does anyone know if this differential will work and is there any way to know if it is a traction lock or what???? Thanks for any advice.

I think only the 4.0 Ranger had an 8.8" rearend and all other engines had the 7.5". Dont quote me on that just giving you an idea...

I am also going to look into the Ranger rearend and if I'm not mistaken some are 8.8 but you might it's not a direct bolt on. Need to make some mods to make it fit

I know the axles will fit a Mustang 8.8 so you would think the diff is the same at least on the 4L ones!

only the dr side axles will fit, but that is from the 7.5 rangers. Can't speak for the 4 liters, but nearly all of the rangers came with the 7.5 rear, as did the aerostars.

There are still enough fox thunderbirds, and mark 7's, and mustangs around to where you shouldn't have a problem finding a suitable 8.8 for your application.
