Dipstick Question

I currently bought an 87 Lx Coupe and I am doing all of the routine maintained it needs to be sure everything is in top-notch shape. I have a friend that owns an 89 lx and we noticed while we were doing an oil change that the dipsticks were different. They are both the same length but read completely different. The distance from the low or add indicator to max is about 3 inches long on mine and only about an inch and a half on his 89. Is this right? Or does one of us have a dipstick to another car?

The stock dipsticks should have a yellow handle on them. Next time you change your oil, mark the dipstick or verify it is correct. Stock configuration would be 5 quarts to make it full.

I guess I have the wrong dipstick. I put 5 quarts in and the dipstick still wasn't up to max. But the handle is yellow.

I'd think that both the sticks should have a part # on them. For the correct one the number will be either E7SE-6750-BA or E6SE-6750-AA. Good luck.

My 89 with 5 quarts in it hits the F in the word FULL. I have heard other people say theirs read wrong too.

Guys.... Think about it for a minute. This is just a part that wasn't very acurate. The dip stick is about as un-reliable as a car built on Sunday. Ford had specific tolerances that were taken into acount when they engineered / designed the tube.... Don't trust it!

fill your motor with 5 quarts and remark the full line based on that.

Thank you, I've been saying this for 30 years.

But, I put in 4 quarts, then start the car, then check and mark at ONE QUART LOW. This is the most important mark to be made on the (notice name) dipstick. I then put one more in and mark FULL.

I do this with every vehicle when I first buy it regardless of Make/Model.

Thanks again guys. I'm going to take your recommendations and not worry about this stupid dipstick and just mark it my self.
