im going to give the canton pan another shot i think and try to get it in the car without screwing around.

i have a question on the dipstick, i got one of the screw in dipsticks with it. the problem is, with it mounted in there it comes up straight under an engine mount. so you have to bend it around that and also around your headers.

is this what everyone does or is there a simplier method? i dont want to bent like a damn Z by the time its working.

what are you guys doing to make it work? thanks

I bent mine to get it between some header tubes. Not much else you can do.

i had heard before some people got specific dipsticks to use with them.

guess ill just bend it then

if all else fails, a Lokar dipstick might work. nice and flexible.

I bend it and bring it up between the last 2 tubes, no big deal at all. Fill the car up with 7qts and mark the dipstick, the marks that come on it will be wrong.

Here's a pic of a car I built it will give you a good idea.

Let me clarify that statement a little more Canton told me a few years ago that the pan is 7qts and the filter holds 1 qt so it is really a 8qt total system. However a lot of guys run 7qts total (myself included) to keep the crank from dragging in any oil. You can fill it with 7qts start the motor then mark the dip stick, or add 6qts dry before running the motor and make the marks.

The marks on the dipstick NEVER match up, I use a center punch to mark the backside of the stick, I go down .25" and above .25" to give me a swing of low and high.

Don't forget to check your pick-up to pan clearance!

thanks, good info as always rick.

however, i got pissed last night and just put the stock pan and pickup back on.

im literally, stuck doing my own engine drop in so i didnt want the added pan fishing to do. its the first time ive done it and its a pain in the ass so far. its sitting out there now very close to lining up.

the input shaft teeth are barely past flush with the clutch forks, maybe a little past them now. any tips on getting that last 1/2" or so? i HAVE to get it done tonight.

Dropping it in with the Canton is no different then stock, very easy

Hook up the clutch cable and have someone push it in, then the tranny will slide right in, perfect.

nobody else here.

i have it in there on the hoist and im just rocking it back and forth trying to get it to line up and ive tried turning it over manually a few times to get the teeth to grab on each other but nothing.

im just pissed after 5 minutes of it today, patience is definately not there and it has to get done

Well all you really need to do it release the pressure off the PP so the disc will move, you can use a prybar or hefty screwdriver to push/pry the fork, them push the tranny and it will pop right in. Call a buddy, find a neighbor?

The disc is slightly out of alignment, that is why it will not go all the way in. Well I am off the bed have to get up in a few to go to work..lol

You did torque the flywheel and clutch bolts right? Just checking before you dropped it in.
