Dirty Fuel?

I dropped my fuel tank to install an Aviator pump and was shocked at how much sediment was in the bucket and how dirty the socks were. It on only has 7500 miles on it and I only use name brand Premium gas,it was disgustingly dirty IMO. I fly on helecopters and our fuel filters NEVER look like that. Of course aviation fuel has to be clean for obvious reasons IMO this was ridiculously dirty fuel even for a car. I wonder if the dirt/dust could be getting in through the vent system or if if comes out of the pump that way? You would think that if we can keep aviation fuel clean we could keep gasoline a little cleaner than what mine was. I had to change my fuel filter because even though I was extremely careful I guess I broke some debris loose and clogged the filter becuse after the pump change pressure would drop almost to zero on deacceleration,changed the filter and now it works great.

One thing I do is...never fill up when the tanker is filling the underground tanks. When they fill the underground tank it stirs up whatever happens to be in it. If you fill up while the tanker is filling...the gas pump will suck up whatever they stirred up and go into your tank. Depending on what station you use..(I believe Caseys might be one of these) some stations actually use recycled gas that was used for cleaning things(in industrial locations). I cant confirm that one but Im going by what a chemist at work told me.

Don't feel bad...I had the exact same problem in my 01 GT...my car was bogging severly under load especially at the higher RPM's. Steeda dropped my tank and they said it looked like a tank off of a ten year old car. There was so much dirt and crap in the bottom of the tank it wasn't even funny. They put a new pump in and replaced the sock and fuel filter. I'm not sure if it is still running right...under load now when I take my foot off of the gas to shift my fuel pressure will drop to about 17-18 but goes back up to 40 when I put my foot back on the gas...does this sound normal...is the fuel pressre supposed to drop that far during shifts? The pressure idles at about 28-29.

I burn auto fuel in my airplane and yes it comes out of the pump that way.AT SOME STATIONS.There was one that always had about a teaspoon of water and dirt in the bottom of a five gallon can.It wouldn't take many of these to fill a 15 gal. tank with slop.Take a gas can with you to some of the stations and get five gallons and see whats in there.

Just remember it doesn't get in there on accident. it's done on purpose.
