Disc brake question

I've got a 1966 mustang coupe that i'm going too put disc brakes on and have a couple questions

1: Can you use the maverick front spindle assemblly or does it have too be the granada setup?

2: What all vehicles can u swap the rear disc brakes from too my 9" rear?

3: Can you use newer master cylinders from Mark VII or newer 94-95 mustang GT's or any other cars? And what PV would i need too use?

My car currently has drums both front and rear and a single round style MS on it and it manual bakes. Any info i can get would be of great help.

the maverick spindle assembly will work just fine.

late 80' to early 90's crown vic rear disc brakes are supposed to swap on to the small bearing 9" and 8" rear ends. i have not verified this to be sure personally, but i have the tech articles that people have written about the swap. email me if you want them.

you can use any ford master cylinder that is compatable with the braking system you are using. ford m/c's used the same bolt pattern, and there is an adjustable push rad available from virginia classic mustangs, as well as other suppliers, to make the swap happen.

since you are building a braking system from different cars, i recommend that you use an adjustable prop valve in the rear brake line to get the pressures right.

Honestly I would purchase a dual bowl master cylinder for disc brakes, purchase 2 rotors for a 66 mustang with disc brakes, a right and left caliper for a 66 mustang with disc brakes, hoses, and bearings for disc brake mustang. All of this is available at Kragen, autozone, or any other auto parts store. There are a couple parts you need from a mustang supplier. That is caliper bracket, dust shield, and possible a portioning valve.

I purchased a complete SSBC kit. It was good quality however their warrenty and service is horrible. I have replaced everythign in my kit with part purchased from my local kragen while SSBC is "fixing" their parts. Lets just say my master cylinder is going on 3 months.

Good advice. The adjustable prop-valve can be obtained just about anywhere but for a disc/drum setup I'd recommend buying the "correct" part that bolts to the inner fender under the MC. It is internally valved for a factory style disc/drum setup, that way you wont need one of those adjustable aftermarket ones at all.

Cool, like the info so far. I'm going with disc brakes all the way around. Here's what i picked up atthe local salvage yard:

Maverick front spindles assembly
95 mustang rear disc brake assembly (calipers, brakets, ect..)
95 Mustang MS and PV
95 Mustang front caliper brakets and ect..)
(I got all this for $35.00 since i took everything off my self)

Right now the cars manual brakes, what booster and rod can i use too change it too power brakes (from the salvage yrad)?

I'm using Grenada fronts, ' 85 Cadillac Seville rears (they bolt right to a Grenada rear), hotrod booster and Corvette master cylinder. It all fits!

Below are two links of just about the same parts. One is $900 and the other is $500 The only items I see missing from "Classicd Service Restoration" is the Dual Master Cylinder, but there giving you spindles?????

That's debatable as seen in the link here - http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=552233&highlight=degins

I would have complete faith in todays production methods while others have a different opinion.

With the exception of the steering knuckle (spindle) and caliper bracket, the kit is put together with brand name parts. The knuckle and caliper bracket are made from steel that is stronger than the original Granada pieces (Granada caliper brackets are Iron). This design is a direct Granada reproduction and is much beefier than 65-69 spindles and the same mass as the 70-73's. The kit comes with new splash shields and mounting flanges and a new OEM type combo valve. The dimensional quality is very good. Master cylinders are available for $45 new, or $35 refurbed.
