Yesterday I went to clean around the engine bay so I removed the cap off the distributer, just the black plastic piece on top. I then removed one at a time and cleaned it, and put them back on as i took them off. I'm almost positive I did it correctly, but does anyone know where I can find a diagram of the correct plug setup because my car doesn't feel strong today. If one or two was switched it would run poorly correct? And that piece of plastic has nothing to do with it right? I'm trying to figure out why it isnt pulling at all today. It is very very humid and hot out, so maybe thats it also.

You removed your plug wires to clean the contact point between the wire and the distributor? It is possible that one of your wires got a bad connection from being pulled off...

Yes but how can I be 100% sure I put the right plug in the right spot?

there is a #1 marked on the cap, put the #1 wire on, and counterclockwise follow the firing order.

When you pulled your cap off, did you get it back on right? Although it should only go on one way, it's best to make sure it's on right and clamped down good. I noticed my cap and bowl (I think it's called the bowl) was loose and could be pulled up about .5" from the bottom of the distributor. I pulled the cap off and the 2 screws inside had backed almost completely out. I tightened those back down, and actually the stang runs better now. It also gets less backfiring (maybe due to a better spark now since the points have better contact with the rotor). Check everything to make sure it's all tight. The plugs should click when seated on the points properly.

Also, I hate to scare you, but when I changed my plug wires, the next day my car started running real bad. I was stumped for a month as to what it was causing the problems. I had switched back to the original plug wires and everything. Ended up my MAF decided to take a crap on me at the same time. Talk about coincidence. Good luck
