I am getting down to the final stages of my build and want to know what type of distributor to purchase to run my 347...

MSD ProBillete for a carb 289/302 - you CANT go wrong with it.

Allcarfan,

How did you curve the ProBillet? Which springs and bushing stops? I'm still fiddling with mine and can't seem to get it right...

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Not sure what you mean by how did I curve the dist. Its actually sitting in its box (although I bought it used). i was under the impression that it was a ready to run unit??

essentially they are ready to run, but with any performance part, you will get better performance by fiddling....when you drop it in, since it is mechanical advance how mauch advance and how fast it advances is controled by the springs and stops....you only know what it likes by playing with it, or going to a dyno and getting a test and tune (which is what I am having done Sat). Right out of the box I got good performance with my pro-billet, but then I picked up 50 HP on the dyno by changing springs last time......now that the whole motor is completely difference it makes sense that I wll need to examine the dizzy setup again.

WOW, you picked up 50hp by changing springs and what not within the dist? I had no idea. most places that have a dyno...can they switch springs and other things to see what works the best??

If you go to a good chassis dyno place and pay them for a test and tune, they will curve your dizzy for you. You can either bring a spring assortment or some places that do it enough will have them on hand and then just charge you for the parts.

That question depends on how much you're willing to spend. I like the price/performance ratio offered by the Duraspark distributor, HEI module, TFI coil setup. I am still running a Pertronix though. Some sort of rev limiter would be nice.

If your 347 has a roller cam, make sure to get a dist. with a steel gear.

I second the MSD Pro-Billit

That is what I run in my 347....

I run mine locked out though.... Mine is set up for the strip though... I am running a 8" 4000 stall and a Ed Curtis Custom Rollor cam.... I am also running MSD Digital 6 and it has a start retard built into it also....

I would not recomend locking the distributer.... Locking out the distributer is more for a Drag Race type setup... For most applications it is better to use the springs... When I used to use springs in the distributer, I liked to use the two lightest springs in the kit.... Although every application is different.....

Stock points type, rebuilt, with a steel cam gear ( if you're running a roller) Fitted with a Pertronix Ignitor II, Mallory pro coil, Ford small to big cap adapter, large post cap, Ford Racing 9mm wires. I've rn this setup up to 7500 rpms, without problems.

i like that radiator in your '65 how what is it? and i'm guessing you had to move the mounting brackets eh? a link to where i can see it would be super...thanks .
