i have a msd 351w carbed distributer and bought a malery steel roller gear for it.according to summit it is the same diameter and fit as the msd and ford racing gears.anyways, the old gear pressed off, then i went to put the new gear on and it just slid right on with no press or hammer.is this ok?will it shear the roll pin?

That gear should be pressed on. If it just slides on there then its not the right gear. Do you really want that much slop on the single device that controls the igntion timing?

Theres two sizes of shafts, you got the large gear for the small shaft.Either that or the gear is another part # gear for a differant engine and was put in the wrong box.Further,it could be defective.
