Do you got some great music to recommend???

Okay, here is my predictament... I have put all my CD's in iTunes with about 22,000 songs. I downloaded (not from iTunes, though) another 1000 tunes to fill in some holes in my music library. And now, my music library is DONE. Done? REALLY??? Nothing more to add????

I listen to rock-n-roll:
It all starts with the '60's centered around the Beatles, Stones, Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix, and the Who.

Then it hits the '70's hard with everything from the Band, Yes, Genesis, Argent, the Moody Blues, Humble Pie, Led Zeppelin, and ELO to Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, Sabbath, Aerosmith, Blue Oyster Cult, the Allman Brothers, Queen, and the Pat Travers Band.

Then we are off to the '80's with everything from the Fixx, Billy Sqiuer, U2, and Tears for Fears to Ratt, Yngwie Malmsteen, Metallica, GNR, and Van Halen.

Then came the awesome '90's: Alice In Chains, NIN, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Goo Goo Dolls, Counting Crows, Nirvana, Blind Melon, Sponge, Third Eye Blind, STP, and 3 Doors Down.

But what about new music from 2000 on??? I am talking bands that you did not know about prior to 2000. John Mayer is good. The Killers are -- just -- alright. But who else. I recently came across Mutemath who are amazing, and I also like Porcupine Tree. But is that it???? I have the opinion that music has fallen off of a cliff since the year 2000.

Pleeeeeeeze prove me wrong:
What new bands are truly great??? Also, do you have some really obscure older selections that an extensive music collection might not have???
I not here to debate my assertion. I just want you to expand my music collection with greatness.

Green Day? Offspring?
I really appreciate the thought, but those are '90's bands. I doubt there are any truly awesome 60's/ 70's/ 80's/ '90's bands that I am unaware of (I obviously can't list them all in my post). If I did miss such a band, they will have to be much more non-mainstream than Green Day.

My guess is that there are some great new bands that I am not aware of... That is what I am really looking for. OR some real obscure older stuff that I may have missed...

Thanks, dude :nice:

I dunno. I like it fast and heavy. Thrashy. You might be interested in some of Chimaira - Resurrection (try Worthless) and Machine Head - The Blackening (try Halo). Both of those albums are receiving a TON of playing time for me.

I dont think music has fallen off, its just the mainstream is horrible. How many songs from other bands do they play in between U2 songs? 3? Im sick of U2. I hardly listen to the radio anymore. I really got into heavy music around 2000ish. Its getting really popular now, with bands like Killswitch Engage getting regular playing time and having teenie bopper fans. Its kind of odd, seeing as they were at the forefront of the metalcore movement a few years back, when everyone was complaining about "You cant even understand what they are saying, why are they screaming, the music doesnt make sense, its too loud and all over the place, wah wah wah." Now its the 'in' thing.

Aside from sports and cars, music is a huge passion...and going by what you listed, you obviously like rock (who doesn't). If you wanna expand on some bands that weren't well known before 2000, check out Sevendust or Chevelle. If you want heavy heavy...Gojira. Not well known, but they're famous in the genre. Definitely some awesome driving music

Tool:shrug:

although i'm sure you already have them in your library judging by your list

A Perfect Circle
Chevelle
Sevendust
Audioslave
30 Seconds to Mars

don't know if i'd consider NIN a 90's band (or Metallica an "80's band") seeing as how they only released one major album in the 90's, but i'm just ranting

point is if the band is still around might want to get their new stuff as well

[/rant]

older and newer lesser known bands:

Finger 11
Fear Factory
Ringside
Stereophonics
Interpol
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Spoon
Thrice
Vaux
Vaeda
Pulse Ultra

ive been listening to Bullet for my Valentine alot. also downloaded a album called new Medicines from a band called Dead Poetic by the request of a buddy and its pretty sweet. and before that, Tool 10000 days has pretty much been run around the clock in my car, Rosetta Stoned has got to be one of the most awesome songs ever created. Senses Fail is a good one as well.

Excellent, thoughtful replies. Most of the stuff you guys mentioned I already have, but a decent number of the suggestions I have not heard of or really listened to. I will be checking them out. Thanks. You dudes are awesome!
:nice:

Some good hard stuff that i work out too is Bullet for my Valentine, and Silverstein...Silverstein is ok but i like Bullet for my Valentine better. All the other stuff i listen to you already added...

heavy-LAMB OF GOD, HIGH ON FIRE, UNEARTH,
hard rock-MASTODON
rock-THE STROKES, TV ON THE RADIO, INTERPOL, KINGS OF LEON, if you get some YEAH YEAH YEAHS make sure its the "fever to tell" album the new one sucks

You seem to have most of the critical stuff covered, so here's 3 more obscure ones for you:

Crystal Method - "Vegas" is one of the greatest driving CDs of all time
Lost Prophets have some good tunes.
Cake - "Fashion Nugget" is a classic, but all their stuff is great.
