Id also like to add Reveille to that list. Their album, Bleed the Sky, was amazing, start to finish.It came out in 2001. They are one of the best bands to never make it big. They broke up in 2003, but barely existed in 2002. A couple of the guys formed a band called Genuflect, which is just about to release their first full length album this week, not sure if it will be in stores, but you can check out their tunes on their myspace page

Interesting thread. Im a big music buff, and play the drums in a band. Im surprised you know bands like Argent, Thin Lizzy (one of my favs) Humble Pie. Either you are in your 50's or just a music buff. Im 27, and listen to nothing but classic rock and stuff from the 80's. The 2000+ to me is just Backstreet Boys with makeup and guitars.... no musical talent.... aside from Tool (and thats it)

Whoever said Offspring and Green Day needs to take the bubble gum out BTW.

Check out the band Clutch. I listen to them a lot, mostly because I like the drummers style.

wow, you're really missing out

i'm 23 and i listen to ALOT of classic rock but i listen to some new stuff as well. check out some of the posted bands and see if you like them, hell you might end up buying a few new albums

My selection is mostly "newer" stuff. I'm only 20; alot of the stuff from 2000 and on is just kinda what I've grown up with, and alot of these I havent seen mentioned.

Breaking Benjamin (older albums faster), Crossfade, Disturbed, Element Eighty, Fall Out Boy (not hard, but upbeat), Finger Eleven, Hinder, Korn (not sure how old they are), Linkin Park, Lost Prophets, Mudvayne, My Chemical Romance, Nickelback, Papa Roach, Seether, Staind, Story of the Year, Sum 41, Stone Sour, Theory of a Deadman, Three Days Grace, Trapt

Most of those should be 2000 and up. A couple might have had stuff come out in the late 90's.

I don't know exactly what your tastes are, but mine are pretty much all over the place. I just like music...good music in whatever form...I rank musicianship and songwriting above and beyond the genre...either it strikes a chord (pun intended) or it doesn't. Some of mine may be a bit more mellow than you hard-core metalheads (I dig metal too), but I think they are all worth a listen. Here are some (mostly) newer bands that I like (especially while driving):

Queens of the Stoneage (especially "Songs for the Deaf"!!!...must have...Dave Grohl on drums)

...and you will know us by the trail of dead - "Source Tags and Codes"

The Strokes

Coldplay (for those early evening cruises with your woman next to you and the top down...great musicianship)

The Fray (see Coldplay)

The Dandy Warhols - "Welcome to the Monkeyhouse" freaky fun music

The Brian Jonestown Massacre - retro-sounding, pretty good stuff...free downloads on their site...just Google it

Franz Ferdinand has a distinctive sound, but I haven't listened to much of their stuff yet.

Nickelback

Smashing Pumpkins (90s...but you didn't mention them...you probably already have their stuff if your collection is as extensive as you say)

Gotta have some Pink Floyd on standby (I know...60s-90s...etc...)

Must have Dylan and Cream in your older stash somewhere...(yeah yeah...I know...it's probably already there anyway)

Radiohead

Wilco - especially "Yankee, Hotel, Foxtrot"

Foo Fighters - must have...from 90s to current...it's all good

Shawn Mullins (folksy...acoustic singer/songwriter) when I'm in the mood for mellowing out. (90s)

White Stripes

The Vines

Silversun Pickups - just checking them out...hear their sound compared to Smashing Pumpkins (Gish/Siamese Dream era stuff)

I listen to mostly rap, but one of my favorite hard rock/metal bands is rammstein. They are German, but it is definitely drive fast music. Check out reel big fish, its ska so you may like it you may not. Dropkick murphys are really good also. Our tastes are a bit different, but maybe you will expand your horizons a little bit. good luck.

To start with...

"Green Onions" by Booker T and the MGs was the first street hotrod song I ever heard. Maybe 50's music but still bitchin'

"Starting Over" by Crystal Method is a great cruising song from the '90s. Lot's of songs from CM can be car songs.

"The Brazilian" by Dirty Vegas is all about lining up and racing...

"Absurb" by Fluke. There is a video out there called "Pure American Muscle" which has the best cut of this over all.
