does a MAP sensor need vacuum??

well now that i have like three threads going, i just searched an found out the a map sensor is suppose to pull vacuum??? can anyone confirm this??? the car is an 89 so its maf equipped.... thanks!!!

Well there are two sensors really.

A MAP sensor is used on 86-88 speed density mustangs and is a Manifold Air Pressure sensor. It measures vaccum in the motor

a BAP sensor is used on the 89-93 (and 88 cali) mustangs with mass air. It's basically thr same sensor except the port which runs to the motor is left open to the atmosphere. It's a Barometric Air pressure sensor. It measures the pressue of the outside air.

On an '89 mass air car, it's a BAP sensor and is left open
