I've been keeping a log book on my family's gas consumption for the past few weeks. For the period April 14th to May 19th. We used the following amounts tracked by car.

04 Honda Odyssey 6 fill ups $273.02 of which about 2/3 was city driving averaged 21 MPG
95 Mustang had 5 fill ups $154.01 of which mostly city driving averaged 16 MPG
01 Civic had 2 fill ups $70.51 all city driving

Going out tonight to fill both the civic & mustang.

Thats $473.54 & about another 80 to fill up the other two.

That equals roughly 180 gallons of gas (at $3.09/gallon) and 3606 miles driven. That's quite a few miles for a month. How many drivers? Your cost per mile is about $.20, at roughly 20 miles per gallon. (You never gave an "mpg" for the Civic. I estimated 24mpg for it.) Sounds like a bargain for that amount of transportation, to me.

I keep track of all my mileage on http://brianbauer.org/. My first log on there was 9-30-05 and since then I've used 1169.198 gallons of gas, paid $2967.74, and traveled 37,101.4 miles. That's just for my Mazda and recently my T-bird. I try not to keep track of how much I spend on the Mustang.

My mazda has averaged 32.76mpg and cost $.08 per mile. The t-bird is at 21.76mpg average and $.13 per mile, but I've only filled it up a couple times and one or two 18mpg tanks from the winter are killing my average.

A lot of people in my family and members of my soon to be extended family have been buying cars lately...
and I've been referring to this page a LOT:

http://www.autohopper.com/fuel_economy_cars/results_gas_mileage.asp

You can look up any car, any year, any model etc... on their average gas consumption.
Not entirely sure if this is pertinent to your discussion, but I found it interesting anyway.

Sorry those are in canadian pesos, and I converted to MPG, cost per litre/kms yuk

I fliped from Kms/litre to MPG so it would make more sence for those south of the border.

I bought 479.6176 Litre's of gas which cost me $497.54
3.8L = USG (479.6176/3.8)= 126.21 USG
1USG= $3.95 Can.
Drove Almost 3000KMs total for period
1mile=1.6 Kms
Drove 1875Miles
Two Drivers & yes the civic is getting 25MPG city

I kinda keep an eye on it...nothing can really be done (aside from the the oil companies that are clearly taking advantage of a situation).

My DD Olds gets like 24mpg or so and I drive ALOT of hwy. I gen. run a tank a week at about 36$ a tank (12-12.5gal tank) when its over 3$ a gal. So roughly $144mo give or take. The wife drives a 01 zx2 and works less than half the distance I do from my job. We try to be as usefull with our paths to and fro from work...as to make stops while on the way home as to not go back out.

When I got my DD Olds I was DD my 90 full size bronco...just from college, work, and home was 460$ a month not even counting "going out" or "playing in the mud" driving. Just the gas savings alone pays for the DD, its gas, and ins.

I am looking into selling/trading in the DD for a 99-03(early 7.3 03) F250 crew cab or ext. cab diesel pickup. Then maybe buy a bio-diesel kit and supliment my own fuel...figure have 3 55gal drums. 1 getting filled with used oil, 1 being treated/processed into biofuel, and the last one processed biofuel. If you can even run it mixed with reg. diesel (I have been told/read yes and no)...at say 50/50 or just every other tank fig. it would take about 10mpg to = the cost of fuel my current DD gets. With a tuner on a diesel its not impossible to get 19-20+mpg.

Well said, I agree completely. I never look to see how much it is at station A or Station B, and although I sometimes look at the total miles I get out of a fill-up, it doesn't really matter to me any because it is what it is...If I drive it, it needs gas, so I'll put gas in it.

the only thing I keep track of is gas mileage in the mustang and truck....mustang I average 25-26 to work and back....best so far is 27 mpg....03 s10 I average 20-22 to and from work, best in that is 23.75...granted it's 46 miles one way to work and it's alot of highway, but when I get into town there are 11 stop lights I always seem to catch.
