I'm leaning toward a color laser this time.

Must haves:

Scan Duplex
Print Duplex
Color
Large paper tray (half a ream of paper minimum)
Network capable (wireless preferred, Cat5 mandatory)

Nice to have but so what:

Fax

I have a Canon MX870 for several years. Pretty damned good printer with a few minor exceptions and a recent tendency to NOT do it's job in times of need.

I don't like ink cartridges. The only printer related item that I like less than ink cartridges are people who design printers with ink cartridges. Burn in hell scumbags. May you be diagnosed with an incurable disease and be ass raped every day until you die.

This will be a home office machine. Needs to be fairly quick by those standards. Needs to print black and white REALLY well, color images pretty well, and photos well.

I think $300ish is a reasonable cost for these must haves.

Since I don't have the capability of making my own printer, I realize that I may still end up shafted into another ink-jet so I'll recommendations for those that people really like as well. Don't worry, I will not levy the same curse upon you as I do the manufacturers of these evil, life-sucking machines. :D

So what do you guys have/use that you like? There's no such thing as an honest internet review anymore. #1 is always the one they get paid to most to lie about.

I have an HP, the printer part works decent ,IF IT DOESN'T TAKE IN TWO PAGES AT THE SAME TIME:fuss:The scanner is crap :nonono: Works great as a copier . Has a small screen on the front ,way to small to read .
I haven't found one i would call good ,i have sent a few back when the drive belt starts skipping :fuss::fuss:Half a ream of paper,or sooner , would run the ink dry .

Hell man.... I remember when you got that machine!

check out brother line of printers. they may have just what you want, and they are reliable.

I've actually been looking at their line-up on and off for the last couple of hours. They're hit and miss like most companies that make printers.

I've owned HP, Lexmark, Canon, and a few others. I've not owned a Brother printer yet so they're def on the list of possibles.

HPs work good ...the first day .The cannon i had quit taking in paper ,i think the wheels that take the paper in hardened and just spun on the paper .
Haven't tried a Lexmark ,that is what my brother wanted me to buy.
I hope to buy a whole new computer and all in one printer after the first of the year.I think i have been through 2 all in ones and about 4 regular HP printers . I do a lot of receipts .hate those friggen paper jams and two pages at a time , that over lap about half way so the receipt is printed half on one page and half on another ,and ink cartridges that don"t work. Ink cost more than gas

What do you think about driver bloat with HP? I stopped buying them for that reason but I think I'm ready to make that trade-off for a reliable machine.

our brother printer runs great. we have an inkjet printer, and it does pretty well on ink usage. with as many pages as we have printed so far, we have not had any paper jams, or any other issues for that matter.

I don't think my printer does all that you're looking for, but I'm sure HP make one that does and I have no complaints. It scans/prints and has WiFi, but it's geared more towards photo printing. I've always stuck with HP or Epson printers.

Back in the day, all I ever ran was HP. When the driver package got upwards of 500 Megabytes and still acted like chit... I moved on. It's been a while though.

I rarely use my printer, but my HP Deskjet 3510 is a surprisingly decent all-in-one. I haven't used it to scan any pictures, but I use it to scan documents into PDFs quite frequently, and it is capable of printing photo-quality pics.

I'd had several craptacular all-in-ones over the years (Lexmark X83 was the worst), and figured this one would be another one that I chunked to the curb in less than a year, but it hasn't been the case. I've got it set up on my home wireless network so my whole family can use it, and with the HP app on my phone and email-to-print, I can print things at home from any computer or my phone from anywhere I am.

Ink cartridges for it aren't that expensive, have a decent life expectancy, and are simple to change (and they don't dry out in a week like Lexmark's crap, I'll seriously never own another Lexmark inkjet even if it's free!)

I just picked up the HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276mw this summer.

Unlike many of you on the StangNet, I use a Mac. I was drawn to this laserjet due to it's AirPrint capability.

I unboxed it, connected it to my network, and my Mac saw it instantly; I added it to my printer preferences, and it just works.

I like being able to print, scan, copy; I can scan to email or, if set up, scan to a NAS. My iOS devices can print to it just as seamlessly as well.

The toner cartridge that came with it supports 500 pages in black but can support a 1200 page cartridge if I remember correctly.

Needless to say, I'm thoroughly impressed with this all-in-one printer, and I couldn't be more pleased with its purchase.

I may need to take another look at HP. I'm willing to sacrifice extremely efficient drivers for extremely reliable ones at this point.

I have 2 at home. 1 for personal user Lexmark Pro 910 and one for business HP 6600 . The Lexmark is a decent unit an the black replacement cartridges can be found for less than $5 The HP quality is a tad better but IMO goes through ink cartridges rather quickly, although you do have separate cartridges for each color.
