I have a creak in my steering, specifically when I back up, and start moving forward turning to the right. After that initial sound, it never happens again until I let the car cool off. I suspect its my ball joints, and I've been quoted $300 for the install by 3 different shops in my area - seems a little pricy to me! Does this sound right? I'm tempted to ignore the occasional sound, or just start fresh with a Mach 1.

If you have 3 different quotes I would think yes.. Most shops use the same / similar software to quote labor. They just plug in the info and it spits out the "time".

I agree, but I had no idea ball joints were that expensive to install, especially when I'm providing the parts. At the rate of $70 per hour, I'm being charged for 4hrs of work; it seems ridiculous, and I'm not even sure the ball joints are my issue. :(
