does this sounds high for 1/4 skin replacment cost?

750 perside with me supplying the parts. They said they throw in the cost of installing new outter wheel wells, fit the doors up, trunk lid and everything else. If that means modifying the doors and trunklid to make the gaps perfect it doesnt sound horrible. doors are almost perfect as is but the trunk lid needs some modifying to make it perfect. This qutoe seems high to me but wanted to double check first. so itd be almost 2g's after buying 1/4skins and outter wheel wells.

Actually sounds reasonable. Basing an opinion on the $'s is sometimes misleading. Shops have to cover a lot of expenses to operate their business. I usually look at the hours they estimate to perform the job. if the hours are reasonable then it is probably ok. Their hourly rate is their rate, they have a lot of things to pay for out of that rate. If this shops rate is $35.00 per hour that would be only 42 hours for the work. Not much at all considering all they are doing. I've done a lot of fabrication and paint work, so something in the range of 40ish hours sounds pretty good to me. ARe they doing any paint other than primer? I agree with Ronstang

there not painting or primering anything this is just for fitment of panel doors, trunk lid, and welding in new 1/4's and outer wheel wells. zero paint work.


sorry forgot to mention this car is stripped down for panel wise interior gutted im restoring it. this is just getting rid of rust. im doing a repaint.

Sounds a little low to me. At current average shop rates, that means they figure they can do all that in about 10 to 12 hours per side. Maybe they can, but it took me longer than that and I have a pretty well equipped garage that rivals a lot of small shops. Or maybe I'm just slow.....

Only if their work is good, crappy work is never cheap in the end. Try to see as much of th work they are doing as you can. A lot of times you can get a good price. In our area (southern california) there is a local shop that wanted about $20K for the work we doing. Another shop, but with good recommendations (a personal friend recommended him has had ~ 40 cars done by the shop) is doing the same work for ~$8K.

A friend of mine in the business said that if he were to estimate it, he would probably have to get ~20 hours per side plus materials, depending on the condition of the car. Skins and quarters require several hours of bodywork even after welding. His total would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $2000 per side without paint.
