Doing a 4 eyed conversion.

I just asked for help, and all i got was useless criticism.

I wanted to do a 4 eye conversion solely because i thought it would be unique to have a 85-86 exterior and have an aero interior.

I didnt mean for the thread to go this way, i just asked for help where to find thse parts, no for someone to tell me, and, in bold uppercase letters,

DO NOT CONVERT CARS

its my car, i do what i want, and truthfully, i dont see the big deal in converting vehicles. What about the guys who do eleanor clones? what about the guys that do Terminator clones but have a 4.6 SOHC motor? why not go find those guys and bash them for doing that too?

I thought this forum was supposed to be helpful. But, all there is is a bunch of critics that think they know it all and have the right to tell someone what to do with thier car and spend that persons money.

Great going. :nice:

Wow. Kind of a snotty reply there, yourself, fella.

If you'll re-read some of the above responses, you'll see a couple explaining WHY it's not exactly a good idea, nor a cheap one, as well as a complete listing of the parts necessary to do a proper conversion. If you wish to disregard that as useless, then I don't know WTF else you want from the people here. Sounds more like you already have it set in your mind that you're going to do things your way, whether it be done right or as a hack-job, and you were disappointed not to be met with a lot of folks being supportive of your idea.

I can appreciate that the whole idea of converting an aero to a four-eye (or vise-versa) will step on a lot of folks' toes for aesthetic reasons, but honestly, it goes a bit beyond that, as well. It simply DOESN'T FIT RIGHT. It's the same reason you won't find a lot of fans of folks that splice SN95 noses onto Foxes, or S197 noses onto SN95's - yes, it CAN be done, but it looks like hell, the lines don't fit right, and the whole "package" altogether, no matter how much effort is put into it, still makes the car look cobbled together.

Seriously, have you actually seen or Photochopped some four-eyed body pieces onto an aero Fox to see how they look? As similar as they might seem before you go to bolt 'em on there, they APPEAR quite similar, but they're really night and day in difference. The '79 to '86 era of Foxes had a LOT of totally different styling cues that were as different from the '87-'93 cars as the SN95's ('95-'98) are from the Edge ('99-'04) years - they use what is physically the same chassis, but the styling lines are so different that they physically don't fit together correctly at all.

We don't set out to hunt down these folks making fake Eleanors and Terminator wannabes because for one, there's too damned many of 'em to even count, secondly because they generally stick to the same year of car that they're trying to emulate ('67-'68 for Eleanors, and '99 to '04 for Termi's), and thirdly because they don't come right to us asking for any kind of input on those sorts of things. (FWIW, I'm not fond of fake Termi's and Eleanor clones, either.) Ah, and lastly, when someone DOES approach a group of people with something that is in most respects a bad idea, they're not trying to impose their sense of taste on you so much as they are trying to help you avoid making a poor decision that you will likely later regret - such as, "Hey guys, where can I go to get 2-gauge piercings stuck in my nostrils?" or "Who's a good local tattoo artist that will ink a Ford oval onto my forehead?"

The early Foxes used different door panels, quarter windows, hoods, tail lights (especially the '79 to '82 models, which even had different sheetmetal behind the lens housings), bumpers, mirrors, inner fenderwells (at least compared to '90-'93 models), brakes/spindles, no quad shocks (started on '86+ 5.0 models IIRC, maybe on '85 GT's), single-hump tranny crossmembers (dual-humps didn't come along until '85 when true duals became available on '85 GT five-speed applications), chrome window trim around the front/side/quarter/rear glass, different doors, different rocker panel trim (at least on my '84 LX), and the line on the center-level mouldings was totally different on the four-eyes than on the '87-'93 models. If you really want to go through all of the hassle of hunting down all of that to make it look like a genuine four-eyed car with an aero interior ... well, you've clearly got a lot more time, money, and drive than a large majority of folks here. (It'd be far simpler, cheaper, and easier to swap an aero interior into a four-eye than to redo the whole exterior.)

Anyway ... good luck with that whole deal, I guess, since any feedback you get here is "useless" to you. :nice:

P.S. 50resto, eBay, Craigslist, and the local boneyards are the only places I know of where you can readily obtain any four-eye body parts, anymore ... but what do I know? I'm just a "critic."

Great going. :nice:

1. I would love to see how you could explain to me(us) how what i posted(Its even quoted below) would be useless information. I posted everything you could possibly need, even mentioned the other things you would have to do. I also made it pretty clear that this would not be a cheap operation

2. I'm not trying to spend you money, read the first sentence. I'm trying to SAVE you money.

Don't even try to give me your crap.

I'll save you time and money. Just buy the car you want.

DO NOT CONVERT CARS

First of all, the '85-86 parts are getting expensive. Number 2, save the parts for people who actually have '85-86 cars. Don't ruin an aero nose car to make it a 4 eye or vise versa.

Also, if you swap the noses, the car will never be right. Simply becuase it would cost a fortune to swap every part to make it look identical to a original 4 eye.

If you were to do the swap. You would need these parts from an '85-86 GT.
1. Front bumper cover
2. Front impact support
3. Front impact support arms
4. Fog light mounting bar
5. Fog lights
6. Fog light covers
7. Fog light wiring harness
8. Headlight panel
9. Headlights
10. Headlight wiring
11. Fenders (Lh, Rh)
-'85-89 specific
12. Fender extensions
13. Hood
14. Doors
-Dril rails are different, so are the mirrors.
15. Sail panels
16. Tail lights
17. Rear Bumper Cover

Anybody who knows 4 eyes, knows that those parts are far from being cheap. Sure you might be able to find a few aftermarket parts, but those are as good as junk. Common sense tells you that though. Just do a short price list of those parts, then factor in shipping as well. I think you'll change your idea of the swap.

Oh and thats just the exterior, don't forgot the interior. Also, take into consideration that you have to paint ALL of the parts still and have them installed. I wouldn't exactly consider that cheap. Also, you'd have to cut and splice all your exsisting headlights/blinkers wiring harnesses to work on the '86 nose. The '86 has 4 headlights and 4 side markers, and if you want to figure in the fog lights add 2 more to the total. The aero nose only has a total of 6 lights. Plus you'd have to add a switch for the fog lights to work properly.

To be honest, by the time you did the complete conversion on your '93, you'd have so much money in that car that you could have bought a stock '85-86 GT and still keep your '93 LX. Also, if you ever went to sell that car after the conversion was done. Nobody would want that car thats been all messed with, i personally wouldn't touch a car like that with a 10ft stick.

Regardless of what people think and say, these cars(talking about '85-86 and '87-93) are alot more different then you think. And don't do a half ass job either. If your gonna do it, do it right or don't it at all. But you should just not do it at all anyways.

Good luck :nice:

Edit: If your 100% set on doing the conversion, the guys over at foureyedpride.com - Home would be glad to lend a helpful hand!

I bought an 84 t top notch that has an aero nose on it...some day I'd like to put the correct nose on the car but for now i'm going to drive an enjoy the car (if i ever finish it). The one one thing that looks out of place is the cowl area...looks too small for a aero nose hood an there's a gap between the hood an cowl...u may have too tight of a fit.

Do it,if somebody doesnt like it ,screw em .Of course all the internet tough guys are gonna call you inmature names.I plan on going 4 eyed with my coupe eventually.

Juding by your screen name:rolleyes: you must not be the tip of the sword. I personally would love to see your photos after your done with the conversion. NOBODY does the conversion right, rarely EVER does it even look decent.

While I agree with your position on the whole matter, I dont agree with your attitude.

Are you not the same guy who said hose clamps were safe to use to compress coil springs? And now you are basically calling out other people about their intelligence level.
