Got a rod knock, now the question is what 2 do next. I am leaning toward the 5.4 sohc swap, then putting my ported heads on, and etc. Or should I just get a 99-04 4.6 sohc and be done with it. Now would the 5.4 sohc bolt right in, with minimal modification. And what model years would I need to look at? My car is 96, I just don't want 2 buy a transmission too. Tools aren't a problem i have my car at naval garage, which has every tool needed. Just don't know what route to take. Any and all info will be very helpful. Thanks

What are does your budget look like?
Are you going to do the work yourself??
Are you in a hurry or can you take your time???

well i don't have alot of cash, but i know where i can get a 5.4 sohc under a grand. then i was figuring maybe i would spend about 800 after that. that's why i wanted 2 know if a 5.4 will bolt right in. would i need 2 upgrade my computer and change wiring harness, and etc. And yes, time is slightly a priority.

you'll need new headers. the computer may need a reflash, but i think i heard someone use a 4.6 computer with a 5.4 without issue.

5.4 will be a PITA swap and your $800 budget will not come close to making it happen. realistically you will need 5-8K to make the swap happen.
