Freezing cold weather sucks! I honestly believe that it is what caused the major damage to my car yesterday. I shut my hood like normal, gave her a tug to make sure it latched. No problem there, I headed downtown, then as I reached 50 mph my hood FLEW UP! Creased my hood, dented my roof, smashed my plastic cowl behind hood and absoutely mangled the pannel on either side of the cowl. I think that the latch stuck a bit the last time I shut the hood. Now I have to do body work and find a new hood and cowl. arg!

That's why I use hood pins. Sucks when that happens, same thing happened to the previous owner of my 88. (explains the huge dent in the wiper cowl) BTW anybody know the best way to pull the dent out of the cowl. It's not like you can just unbolt it and replace it since it's part of the firewall too. I pulled mine out the best I could but the metal is now weakened because of the crease caused by the hood flying up. Any ideas? Don't mean to steal the thread or anything.

a drill a screw a slide hammer and lots o bondo (unless ya got a spot weld puller) those kinds of dents come from droppimg the hood when you unbolt it, i now use phone books in the corners when taking off a hood

haha, yeah I had that happen a few times, scary. I was at the street races where they jacked all of my stereo among other things, on the way home on the highway I discovered they also pryed the hood open and broke the latch to see if they could take some motor parts fun!

got me twice here.......the roof can be FUN to fix. Very hard to get ready for paint again. Its hard to get it smooth again. HOOD PINS are now my good friend.

If it happens again I will burn the car where it sits and call my insurance company.
