door actuators

cars been setting for 2-3 weeks for this project to get done. finally got everything going and the dang door lock actuators are froze!!

the key wont turn in either of the lock cylinders at all. they are both froze! 2 weeks ago they were fine...anyways

i have power to both the switches and you can here the actuator trying to move its just not able too.

just thought it was a little odd that 2 weeks ago they were fine and then it sets in the shop for 2-3 weeks and they are BOTH locked up!!! rant....rant........ahhhhhhhh..............relief.

what could cause them to lock up like that?? (car was welded on)

if i need to replace them i'm putting in those tough aftermarket universal ones.

i have a viper 790xv alarm with a window module

the windows ARE working so that means my circuit breaker on the solenoid it OK correct?

Stuck with door lock actuators that don't work and don't want to pay the $50+ for a new one? Tried the junkyard ones and found that they last six months and freeze up?

A new actuator for less than $5. Fix one side for $18, do both sides for only $25. I don't sell parts, I don’t make any money off of the upgrade, I just tell you how to do it cheaply and easily.

Those are the gm style actuators and they are pretty dang good. The factory gm actuators are best, the aftermarkets ones are so so. I actually use those actuators to pull the door release latch when I shave door handles off of vehicles.

thanks for the link jrichker i found and read your write up about 10 minutes after i posted up. i'm gonna go aftermarket. just wanted to check and see if i'm scewed with what i got? am i gonna have to replace them or should i check the circuits?....i'm prolly screwed huh?

it's just the damndest thing that it sets for 2 weeks then this! lol...oh well let me know if i should even bother chasing electrical or if i should go ahead and replace with aftermarket.

It does sound like both actuators froze for whatever reason. If you're quick at popping door panels off, you can check the wiring at the actuators themselves. This isnt a bad idea since you might want to disconnect your actuators from the locks so you can use your locks manually [till new parts arrive].

Many have done JR's retrofit (myself included) and it's top notch. The aftermarket actuators have a nice thunk instead of that whiney chirp that the OEMs have.
