Door hinge repair kits

I have a really worn out door hinge but, I can't get a set of hinges right now. Does anyone have a supplier to get a door hinge repair kit that has a 14mm outside diameter bushings. The biggest the parts store has is a 13mm from a Camaro door kit. It's just too small.

I bought their "oversized" repair kit and it isn't big enough. Had the body shop look for a bigger set and the biggest they carried was 13mm for a Camaro. I just don't know where to look. Tried all the parts stores.

50resto is where I bought my hinge pins, and there is the link. When I bought mine, they sold them per door, and now they sell them for both doors in the same package. My pins are still working great.

Hinge pin & bushing kits are available at many auto parts stores. Or see http://www.texasmustang.com/ or http://www.mustang-unl.com/. Usually less than $8 for the kit with one pin & 2 bushings.

Th hard part is to get the old pin out. Some were spot welded in, others were hammered so that the end mushroomed. Either way, it takes a grinder or cutter bit in a drill or Dremel tool to cut the pin or grind off the weld. Once it is off, tap the pin out with a hammer. Only remove one pin at a time so that you don't have the full weight of the door to manage. I highly recommend that you have a helper standing by to hold the door.

Once the old pin is out, lower the door and tap out the old bushings. Put the new bushings in and have the helper lift the door in place so that you can slide the new pin in. It may have to go in differently from the way it came out. That's OK, as long as you put the cotter pin in the hinge pin.

OOOPS!!!The important thing to remember is that the hinge pin isn't supposed to move once you are finished. If it does, then you will end up like me - the pin moved, it wore the door hinge instead of the replaceable bushings. Now in order to fix it right, I have to remove the whole thing again and drill out the hinge to the same size as the bushing and use 2 sets of bushings in each hinge rather than one set.

The fix for the OOOPS was very time consuming and if you aren't up to some very interesting machine work, do it right so you won't have to do it again. I fixed the OOOPS but I had $43 worth of drill bit and specialized reamer plus pulling the fender off to fix it.

I found the repair kit from 50resto, I bought them. I even bought the oversized ones they offered. Too small. Mine is worn pretty well. I looked in the parts stores and the biggest I found had an outside diameter of 13mm where the grooves are. This is just barely too small. So I figured if I can find them in a 14mm I'd be ok.

Sometimes companies make it hard to find stuff on their site, especially through the search engine function They even updated their site, but I think it's harder to navigate now! Oh well

By me, these pin kits are in nearly every store, even pepboys in the "help" section, (you know the ones with the red packaging of odd stuff).
Mine came from carquest, and i've been told autozone has them.
Cost me like $8 per door.

Problem solved. I got to talking with the body guy and asked if could weld real good. He said yes and I offered that he should weld the hole, grind it down and then re-drill the hole. He thought it was such a great ides he did it for free to see if it would work. It did! PERFECT... 1993ssp, thanks for the offer, I might still take you up on it for a project car I'll be doing in a few months.

im going to throw a quick tack weld on the bushing for now because my bushing hole is worn out too.

You should tack weld the bushing on anyway because that will keep it from rotating inside the hole of the door. Only the pin should be free to rotate for longevity sake.

The bushing looks like its copper or brass and I thought that welds didnt stick to those metals, but I guess it would be a good way to ''build'' some metal around the worn hole.

I don't see how the bushing hole wore out? I can see the bushings being worn but not the holes. First time I ever heard of that.

I think bushing holes wear out when people put their fat *** weight on the door, putting stress on it. It's not as common as the bushing itself wearing out, but it does happen.
