Fox Door striker bushing install?

Hey guys!

Looks like I need to replace mine on my 93 hatch. Is there a trick to prevent the backing plate from following down in the quarter panel?

I had this happen on my 90 coupe and it was a pain!

If your interested in an awesome cheap and quick fix with no risk that works incredible, buy a piece of 1/2” PEX in whatever color you like from Home Depot, cut it to length which is slightly less than an inch long and then with a razor, slice the piece down one side. Now put the tube that you sliced in front of the striker and push hard. The PEX will snap on and fit perfect and your doors will grab like new. Before and after pics attached. I was afraid of removing the striker and dropping the back down also and came across this fix online, gave it a try and it was one of the best and easiest fixes ever.
Nothing to lose by trying to see if your satisfied.

When the bushing fails, it’s often from the hinge pin bushings letting the doors sag. There are also good threads here on that if you need it.

It’s used for water lines so any home improvement place, hardware store, plumbing supply, etc would have. You only need 2” total to do both sides. It’s cheap. If you can’t find it send me your contact info if you want and I will mail you the pieces for nothing. Comes in blue, red, white and black I think.

The plates back there should be 'captured ' in a bracket of sorts and should not fall out, that said I've heard of the plates dropping off.
The fix above works really well and you don't worry about the plat falling.

I appreciate it! I'll definitely look at Menards, but I always seem to have bad luck finding these kind of things lol. If they have black that would probably be best for my car.

Might check with a local plumber, they likely have scraps they may toss at you.

I glued the bushing to a metal coat hanger rod and held it in place while I screwed on the door striker, then when done snap it off or leave it there, it won't hurt anything. I tried to get it by hand and felt like I was going to break it. The trick worked like a charm for me.

I just did the 1/2" Pex trick and it worked perfectly. Wow, simple and very effective. Thank you!!
