Hello all

I am in need of replacing the doors on my 1988 Foxbody Mustang. I have come across a 1979 Foxbody that has some really nice doors but need to know if they will fit on the 1988. I have searched the internet and cant seem to find any information on any changes that may have happened across the years to the doors.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance Todd

79-93 are the same size and frame- as long as you are replacing the same body style- coupe to coupe, convert to convert, T top to T top.

The inside door panels and locations of window and door switches are in different locations so you will need to swap them off your existing door., as well as the mirrors are different. 79-88 have the mirror located in the front corner of the window while the 89-93 have them mounted on the door.

The trim at the top of the door below the window on the outside is different but it will swap over with the round mounting brackets.( drill and rivet on new door ). The door handles are in different spots so all the linkage has to be swapped and the handle hole cut out. The inside handle mounting points will probably have to be modified (they are different). The mirrors are the same ( I believe ) from 79- 93. The only ones that change were convertibles. ( they moved to on the door )

What model 1988 do you have? Coupe? T-top? Convertible?

And what model are the 79 doors coming off? Does the '79 have power windows and locks?

they will fit but i would just find 87-93 gt doors a lot less hassle .that way you don't have to change moldings and window switch placement.

What roof on your GT? T=tops? Or sunroof/noroof?

Also, there wasn't a '79 Coupe hatchback GT. Is it a coupe? Or a hatchback? And more importantly, what roof is on the car. Sunroof, no roof, or T-tops.

Reason I ask is because the major difference is the shape of the glass and the upper door trim. T-top cars are unique and tend to require special doors. Also, the mirrors can be slightly different.
