I want to have CarPlay in my Fox. I’m looking at this Sony unit since it’s wireless CarPlay.

Is it a mission to swap this in or is the install fairly simple?

Those units are pretty shallow. They fit fine and that serious is popular in the fox.

Question is how do you want to install it? Standard location or something like the 417fox relocation kit?

I want to just take the path of least resistance for now. The relocation makes more sense and I’ll probably upgrade to that later but for now I’ll just do the oem lower location.

What’s involved with getting the wiring setup? Is it just cutting and splicing a different plug in?

Probably has harness adapters (Metra or the like) from crutchfield.

Just ordered it, I see it says a parking brake wired connection is required. My parking brake gauge cluster light doesn’t even work so I’m wondering do you guys know if there’s any way to bypass that? I’ve read some say you can ground out that wire that’s supposed to go to the e brake?

Well just because your gauge cluster light doesn’t work doesn't mean the parking brake wiring under the dash doesn’t have signal. I would still hook it up as it should be.

Wait... This is for a radio?

That means there are some functions that are disabled unless it detects a parking brake.

Yeah, bypass that beeoch. If you can just short it, short it. Give it a power or ground or whatever it requires. If it's multi-function, perhaps a toggle switch.

The parking brake tie-in may be for watching videos. That would be the unit's way of making sure the car wasn't moving. In the instructions, there may be something like "the car must be stopped and the parking brake engaged before videos will be played". Just guessing here....

It's just to prevent certain radio features while driving. You can just ground the wire and you will always have that feature.
