Does anyone have the problem of a draining battery on a 2005+ GT? I'm on my 3rd battery and something keeps leeching the charge. Any advice?

Have you checked the parasitic draw?

battery drainage

It's a shaker 500, I don't know how to check the parasitic draw. What do I need to find that out? Do I need to take it somewhere or is there a tool I could find somewhere? Thanks for the help guys!

It's probably the Shaker. How long is it taking for it to make the battery dead? Are you driving the car every day? What are you replacing it with?

before it took about 3-4 days, but now it's a little over a day. I put in a Kragen battery, the battery size is not too easy to find around here. Have the shaker's been known to do that?

I'd also like to not drive the car too much to keep the mileage and road wear down and keep my '93 GT as my daily driver

So how long are we talking between drives? It sounds like you might need to just put a battery tender on the car ...

Parasitic draw is the current that the computers draw when the car has been shut off for at least 40 minutes. It is typically 20-30 milliamperes, but up to 50 ma is considered okay. It is somewhat of an involved process if you are not familiar with how to do it. My dealer did it for me at no cost.

You should shut the Shaker system off by using the on-off switch on the radio and not rely on opening the door to shut it off. Sometimes the subwoofers keep drawing current if you don't use the on-off switch.

A battery tender is a device that you plug into 110 volts AC and hook up to the battery. It keeps a charged battery from discharging. It is not designed to jump start a car or to charge a discharged battery. It should have circuitry in it so that it does not overcharge the battery.

And when you say the battery was toast, did you try a trickle recharger or was it just fried?
