Dressing up stock valve covers

I'm in the proccess of putting things together for my Head/cam swap. Just found out that Fox valve covers aren't going to work on my car with the AFM power pipe. So I'm going to have to use my stock valve covers with Pro mag rockers, I don't have the money for new ones.

Any ideas on how to make these things look better? Like what paint/primer to use?

Heres a pic of my stockers, I ran over the original paint with various grits of sandpaper, and then painted then with VHT engine paint. Nothing special, but they didn't turn out too bad.

You can remove the paint and polish them. However since they are not aluminum, spray several clear coats shortly after so they don't rust.

That sounds like an even better idea. What would you guys suggest using to polish up the aluminum? I would think that sandpaper would leave alot of scratches.

Head over to your local auto parts store and purchase a can of paint remover. Spray it all over the covers and let it sit until it hardens. Take 600 grit and sand them down. Finish up with 1000 grit then 1500 grit. Use a compound to bring out the shine. Then spray clear coat. I will be doing mine in a few weeks.

Are the Fox valve covers aluminum? Could I do the same sand and clear coat with those? I don't think they're painted are they?

Yes, the Fox valve covers are aluminum. Mine don't look to be painted.

my engine is all blacks, red and grays- no polished almum or chrome- yuck!!!
