Im shortening my rear end in the near future. I heard of a lot of people drill the plug welds out of the housing to be able to pull the axle tubes out. I was wondering if anyone on here has done that befroe and if you had any tips before I tried doing it myself. Thanks

mark the housing and the axle housing so when you put them back in they are in the same clocked position. and remember if you weld the axle tube back in the heat from the weld will pull the tube towards the side that gets the most heat. Weld an inch or so and go to the oppisite side let cool and do the same again to keep it from pulling one way or the other.

Yeah i got a plan for setting up a jig so everything goes back in the same and so it cant pull at all. I was planning on running some type of rod through the bearing to keep all the bearings aligned. Also i was going to make some supports to hold the housing in a stationary position and have axle tube supports so i can set the tubes on the the supports after i cut them to length. Hard to explain, but it will work.
