I just got a price estimate on a DSS 347 Longblock that i asked for weeks ago. here are the specs

347 Pro Bullet (Level 10 Block) $2499.95
AFR 185 Heads $2725.00
CompCams XE247HR Camshaft $175.00 + 150 for upgraded cam

the total is $5,549.95 for the longblock. i'd like to know if you fellas believe that to be a good/reasonable price for such a motor.

That seems disgustingly high for the heads, I cant believe that they put in $1300 or so in labor to justify that big of a price gauge over what you can get them for from about a dozen businesses in MMFF mag. I would continue to search or find out from them exactly how they are coming to that price on them.

Not bad for the sgort block. But you can get a custom cam for the price of their cam plus the upgrade. And I got my AFR's for 1330 shipped, and that was with the washer upgrade needed for a 302 block.

Well, that's what I am wondering. Maybe the original price is with a smaller, cheaper head. And the second of 2700 is for an extra three hundred upgrade to the AFR's.

Do a search for DSS on the forum. I don't mean to scare you off but as of recently they have been getting some bad marks on quality. Please read up on it then make a decision. It may be cheap now but cost you more later...

i've been doing some research also with machine shops here in tucson. it seems the internet companies charge alot more for their stuff than the local shops do and i don't have to pay shipping. they basically told me that i tell them what parts to get or bring them the parts i want and they will machine the block and assemble the engine. dont forget to pay the $10 to ford to buy the screw in freeze plugs! and they are cheap to have machined in too.

unless they actually made a mistake on the pdf file they sent, then the price of the heads is correct. I was pretty much torn between CHP and DSS, but now that Sicarius said they've been getting some bad marks on quality, i think i'd rather search for a reputable speed shop around here and have them build me something. thanks for the responses
