dual oil filter

i am going to relocate my filter. question is dual or single filter. the company says to use a Fram HP1. as best i can remember this is a smaller filter than the stock 5.0, so i guessing the dual filter is the way to go. anyone who has any experience with this or critisism here is your chance.

i agree, an independent test i read once showed that fram was one of the worst filters out there. for low price filters, motorcraft and i believe purolator were the best

I dont think he plans to use any particular filter brand, but was posting a part number so people would have an idea of what size filter he was talking about. He knows what's up.

Unless the setup is designed well you need to be aware of the consequences of a remote filter. On my '83 TT351 Capri with a -10AN line (5/8" internal) I saw a 15psi pressure drop when the motor was hot with a remote filter kit vs a stock located filter. That was even after smoothing the oil passage ports on the remote kit. My setup was there to get some extra clearance for the turbo downpipes, but I would not recommend it (or do it again). That was also single, a dual filter setup I would suspest would have a worse drop. The power drain and cam / distributor drive stress of a high pressure pump is also a consideration for such a mild setup.

Just browsing and i ran across this thread. Here's the parts-monkey chime in...
Fram HP-1 is the same size as the FL1-A a lot of us are used to buying. It's their 'race' filter. Much better than the extraguard POS that most people buy, but still a Fram.

You can use either one, if you are anal, use two, if you have lower oil pressure and/or are just looking to relocate it, use one.

The motorcraft I believe actually is a purolator filter, it's the high end filter and the middle quality case. I'd just as soon use the regular FL-1A if I were you or step up to either the Mobil 1 or K&N. You could also either order or go to the dealer and buy the Motorcraft race filter.

And just to flex the parts-monkey muscle... if anyone is just looking at this for clearance issues, the FL-300s will also work and is 1/2 as tall as the FL-1A.

my question should have been more directed to the amount of filtration needed. (mistakenly thought the kit was calling for a smaller than stock filter). the Fram HP1, Wix 51515 both change out for the FL-1A. i am going to give the relocation a try and hope to not a pressure drop.

FWIW, this kit from summit (TransDapt) seems to be really good quality. excellent size hoses and good fittings. also the flow ports are pretty clean for a cast piece. hopefully this will work out well. if not ........guess i will just be pissed.
