Dumb question for the month.......you know that little red battery light on the dash-

I take it means I need a new battery when it stays lit after you start the car-
According to the guages, the alternator is doing its job-

but that little light stays on-

Sorry, I know its a retarded question but my car didn't come with a manual--

the battery is either close to dead or the alt is no longer charging. the gauge on the dash is junk. test the battery with a meter. if you don't have one, take the car up to autozone or whatever auto store you have close by. they can check to see if it's just the battery or if the alt is going out.
