I had my dad pull the codes in my car this morning (I am on assingment for work right now so I couldn't). Anyway Code 33 showed up in the stored memory for KOEO and also during KOER. This is the only code that showed up. I know that this is "insuficient EGR flow" but I need to know what to clean / replace since I don't really know about the EGR system yet.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
-Steve

The EGR valve sounds like it is stuck in the closed position. I am not sure if you clean it and make any difference, but it is worth a shot. If it is bad, it will need to be replaced.

33 ALL - (O, M) EGR did not open/ respond during test or if memory code, did not open intermittently -

You can also reset the computer and see if the code comes back. To reset the computer, disconnect the battery for about 10-15 minutes.

I got the same code too but i found out i didnt have one of the vacuum lines conected to one of the diverter valves connected to the smog pump. i hooked vacuum to it and im still getting the code, I no im getting vacuum but it must be stuck cuz, the code keeps coming back. Double check ur vacuum lines going to the diverter valves.

JRichker has a very nice write up about checking out the EGR (he has several actually, but one is for just code 33). if you are in EGR conditions, do you get vac to the valve itself? if EVR is supplied with constant vac and regulates the air to the EGR valve itself.

good luck.

I am getting vacumm to the valve. I think that it's just dirty. When I get back from Mexico, I will take it apart and clean it out.

In the mean time, I will look up the write up on code 33.

Thanks guys!

Code 33 - Insufficient EGR flow detected.
Look for vacuum leaks, cracked vacuum lines, failed EGR vacuum regulator. Check to see if you have 10” of vacuum at the EGR vacuum connection coming from the intake manifold. Look for electrical signal at the vacuum regulator solenoid valves located on the rear of the passenger side wheel well. Using a test light across the electrical connector, it should flicker as the electrical signal flickers. Remember that the computer does not source any power, but provides the ground necessary to complete the circuit. That means one side of the circuit will always be hot, and the other side will go to ground or below 1 volt as the computer switches on that circuit.
Check for resistance between the brown/lt green wire on the EGR sensor and pin 27 on the computer: you should have less than 1 ohm.
