Well, my car is no longer a dyno virgin. I've finally gotten it done. This was done on dynojet, btw...

First run was 211.98rwhp (boo boo BOO! ), 248.30 max torque

Second run was 221.71rwhp, 241.00 max torque

a/f ratio was about 13.8

Mods are listed in my sig. It's still pretty much stock, as you can see. But are the numbers where they should be, or are they kinda low? I didn't expect much out of the hp but I thought my torque numbers are a little low.

Those numbers are a little low. A custom tune would help a lot. You have to remember, because you have an auto tranni, your numbers are going to be lower. My concern right now is your a/f ratio. Is 13.8 constant or is that your peak ? You are running very lean IMO. That will give you more power but it is not safe. Maybe for a NA 2v that is ok I know my cobra should be around 12 or so. Maybe it's not that bad. I'm not sure.

a/f max is 14 and 13.8 is about average

I forgot to mention, the custom tune on my diablo sport activated the SES light. It's also causing my car to ping when accerating, especially when on an incline. Thus, I'm currently forced to drive my car like a granny Anyways, this is most likely the reason for the lean a/f ratio

I'm currently in the process of getting this fixed, so I suppose those numbers should improve a little after that is done.....hopefully.

what is your ignition timing? sounds like that delta chip did more harm than good. get a real tune, and everything ought to be alright.

Yep exactly. I cringe to think how much slower my GT would be if not for the 4.10s.

And umm, what exactly is ignition timing? Sorry to sound like such a newb, but much of this is really new to me and I'm still learning.

are the numbers corrected? See my sig for my bone stock corrected numbers.

Ignition timing is how many degrees of crank rotation before TDC (top dead center) the spark plug fires to start the combustion process. See, the gases don't start acting on the piston to push it down immediatly upon ignition, it takes a short amount of time to expand the gases and push down on the piston. The more efficient a combustion chamber is, the less timing advance it will like.

I think I understand now. But I still dont know what my timing is. Is there a way I can check for that?

And as far as dyno comparisons go: my max torque =

yea that torque rating is waaay down Does it say anywhere in the literature of the chip what it does to your timing? I'm not sure if you can use a timing light on a distributerless ignition

I haven't checked the chip yet but I cannot recall ever seeing anything on it about timing or anything. I pretty much had the chip ordered and they customized it based on my mods & comp. code, and I had someone else install it with the 4.10 gears.

Anyhow, it appears a tune would be the best solution? I'm already considering making an appointment to have it done. I'm just hoping this will set things straight because all in all, the gears/chip experience has been a bad one for me. I felt as if I've shelled hundreds of $$$ for increased performance, only to have made things worse; and now I might have to spend even more. That's what I get for not waiting for the Predator, I suppose...

Get rid of that mail order chip pronto. They suck. You need a custom tune.
I had a mail order Diablo chip in my GT and I dynoed with it, took it out and dynoed again, and I made less power with the chip. The only way to get the most out of your GT is a custom, especially since you have an auto, like I did.
They can do a lot as far as shift points, firmness, etc. I had a custom tune from JDM Eng. and put down 251 hp and 280 trq, and the thing ran like a top.
My mods were all the normal bolt-on's. Just my .02

My auto with a Cat X-pipe, MAC CAI and Flowmasters put down 221hp and 250 lbs.

It was pig rich however at 12.1:1 a/f wise.

Are you sure that they did the run in 3rd gear? If it wasn't that can screw up the reading. Also, ditch the mail-order chip. Custom tune or TwEECer is the way to go.

Most bone stock autos put down 210-220 depending. With my tune I would assume that my power is in the high 230s, it makes alot of difference. Especially since your car is VERY, VERY lean.

That "pinging" is detonation, your engine doesn't like that at all. You might wanna try running some premium fuel through it and seeing if it still does it. when you get a custom chip, you're supposed to run premium, the added octane makes up for teh added timing....

Also, you have an auto, those #'s aren't just horrible.

But yes, a custom dyno tune should help.

Unless the dyno standardized your info, 4.10's could also make it appear a lil more weak.

Yeah, I've heard plenty of horror stories involving mail order chips. There were some instances where it worked out well for some ppl but the risk was too high and I'm paying for my decision. Anyways, I've already made an appointment for next week to have the chip removed and dynoed again.

I haven't thought of that. Didn't know if running in certain gears made any difference. Much of this stuff is new to me. But I'll remember that on my next dyno.

With 18% power loss being typical through a automatic, 221 RWHP equals 260 flywheel HP. Torque being 241 at the wheels is 284 flywheels tq. Like everyone else said take out the chip and see what numbers you make.

Took the chip out today. Holy crap, what a different it made! SES light is off, the car pulls a lot harder on 2nd and 3rd, and most importantly there is NO detonation.

The speedo is off and I do miss the firm shifts, though. But I'm going to fix that this Wednesday with a Predator/dyno tune. Hopefully things will go smoothly.

*crosses fingers*
