wow. stangnet kicked me off. dammit!

dyno tuned today.

the technician only revved it up to 4750, saying my tach was messed up. (bought a new one)

220hp / 300tq CHASSIS

i then later installed a dual electric fan setup from the same 88 turbocoupe as my transmission. being conservative, i guestimate another 10 rwhp

230hp / 310tq CHASSIS CORRECTED

and at the crank

270-280hp / 365-378tq FLYWHEEL CORRECTED

next steps = get the car weighed, and get the aluminum heads mocked / clayed / and installed.

doing internet math, the car should run about a 13.4 with what i THINK the car weighs.

also, the power was still climbing, each time the dyno was shut down. too bad my tach was giving crap signaling, otherwise he would have revved to 5300.

gears and traction will play apart in how fast the car will go. your numbers are similar to mine but i only have 3.27s out back since i wanted to road race too. my best is 13.7 i was thinking with 3.73s and some DRs i might break into the 12s. my cars weights 3020lbs.

Too bad you couldnt run it up to power peak. Kinda strange they didnt use the dynos tach for reference. And I dont think your TC trans is long for this world. You start making much more power it will let you know. BTW what pilot bearing did you use?

the tach issue:

the dyno wasnt getting very good reading, so they were using my in car, which turned out to be about 250 rpm higher than what the engine was doing. good ol manufacturers, dont want you revving your car...

pilot bearing is off an 85 turbo deisel ranger.

as for gears, with the 3.08 they're already pretty short for the TC tranny. if i were to bump up at all, i'd use a 3.27 and thats IT. anything more than that would be way too short.

What kind of dyno was it? On the Dynojet at my old shop if you dont have a good tach reading you dont get any kind of hp or torque readout. Or its sporatic anyway. I would think any other kind of dyno would be the same way considering its referencing your hp by way of torque/rpm.

And I know what you mean with gears and a TC trans. I have 3.73s in my 4 banger car with one and the 3.80 1st is super short and the .80 fifth has me at about 3k at 70 mph

I was running a 4cyl trans also with 3:08 gears, i wouldent even step up to 3:27's and just wait till you stick a V8 trans in there, by that time you'll want some 3:55's or 3:73's..i just broke my first T5 the other day, rebuilt a V8 one over the weekend now i'm waiting for the right input shaft to put it back in..good luck and nice numbers, i really want to use a dyno!

myfordsfly:
i was looking at a few of the runs (7 total)
a few were cutting out from 174hp to 205ish area..

wanna_be_gt:
i went to turbo technology in tacoma.

after a day of driving, i do have to say that i am entirely unimpressed with the tune. there is a giant flatspot at around 1100rpm. making taking off about IMPOSSIBLE.

also theres a huge bog when stabbing the gas (mechanical secondaries shouldnt be opening so soon)

good thing i have a book on tuning the demons, because it looks like i'll have to use the crap out of it.

the only good thing about this dyno session, is the fact that i've got a carb that isnt overflowing the fuel bowls.

For carb tunes, I'd recommend Carburetor Connection in Kirkland...

one of my best friends works literally a block and a half away from carb conn.. LM body shop.

i went over to carb connection, and the guy seemed like a dick. i didnt really like his vibe, especially after i tried to crack the ice :

"carb connection right? hmm, there's a supercharged viper, a supercharged lotus, an s2000... you could call this 'fuel injection connection,' it DOES rhyme? "

iono, anyway, after looking through my demon tuning book, i figured out the stumble AND the flatspot.

accelerator pump was engaging WAY past throttle crack, so that helped with the flat spot, however the fast idle screws were leaned way out and the fast throttle screw was way in,

the damn revs would rise fast, and fall stupid slow, so i had to do some readjusting, now it is getting where it needs to be...

one thing that makes me wonder... now that the fast idle and such has been readjusted and unstumbled, the 76 primaries and 78 secondaries might be a bit too rich... anyone have a gtech, or a wideband o2 sensor? i need to do some "track style tuning"

I have wasted many more $$$ than I care to remember at Carb Conn - they are pretty clueless when it comes to Mustangs. I took my car in with an SCT chip to have them fix a lean issue - they said to drop it off first thing in the morning. They still hadn't got to it by 5 or 6 in the evening. So last thing in the day they did a few pulls. The only thing they did was bump the fuel pressure with the AFPR!!! What a friggin waste of $400!

Ditto. Not to be an a-hole, but I respectfully disagree the GT3 you ran was not "really" racing. However, your torque with a 351 motor should be quite a bit higher then what the dyno lists. Also, your tq should be near its peak somewhere between 3000 and 4500 rpm's..........

as i was saying about the tuning i did last night, it is a huge difference. i've got to get ahold of a friend who works at a ... rice tuning shop. they have a dyno there, and my car feels faster already.

LOL dude! what does your statement mean?

it is like a double negative,

you disagree and also think the gt3 was NOT racing

OR

you disagree and thing the gt3 WAS racing?

if you raced the GT3, he should have pulled on you like you were standing still if he was "actually" racing. Your dyno numbers reflect a very mild modded 5.0 motor with pulleys, gears, exhaust and headers. Your only chance was a dead stop when driver and torque maybe on your side, but rolling.......driver aspect is removed in most cases and the GT3 is pretty much a "super" car at rolling speeds

I think you were had on your dyno time. It sounds like you are doing a better job tuning your car than they did.

The guy at the Dyno you went to blew my motor up in 2002.

EJ It is a Dyno Jet there......so like you were saying how could they even get a reading if their tach portion wasn't working correctly??

I am hearing good things about the Horsepower Ranch, maybe check them out next time. I think I will be planning a dyno tune with them soon.
