Dyno run pre-check list

I have scheduled an appointment with a shop called Haywood Custom Speed here in Raleigh, NC on Saturday the 22nd.

This will be a 1 hour tunning session with as many runs that can be completed in that time frame. Any suggestions as to what I should bring with me? You can see my general breakdown in my signature as to what I am dealing with. I am a Dyno virgin... so any help is appreciated!

Timing light and tools to change your spark plugs and extra carb jets. This would include gloves because you will be working around hot parts if you need to change the plug gaps and a spare plug when you break one taking them out. You will need extra jets if the A/F ratio is low or high.

Did you ask them if they can still work on or tune a carb? Some of the dyno shops only do fuel injection these days so you will be on your own to tune your carb. Might want to ask them before you go.

Yeah, I covered that question on the phone before I went to the shop. Said they know the in's and out's of the Holley line including my 4160. We will see though... they had well over a dozen Mustangs at their shop when I stopped by, but they were all Fox bodies through 06 models. But man, some of the engines they had made my mouth water and I didn't even know what it was I was looking at... everything had twin turbos and super chargers!

So at a minimum, I will take xtra plugs and get a spring kit for my distributor. As for the 4160, what should I be taking for xtra jets and springs? My setup is completly stock in that regard.

I can't wait to see what kind of power I am making, but at the same time I don't want to get my expectations too high when my HP and torque numbers aren't through the roof.

I had mine done, for just a little bit more the place would do the tuning for you. In my case this worked out great because there were some problems with the machine and the guy doing the tuning had several phone calls while I was standing there paying him. Basically he did 3 hours of tuning for the cost of 1 because he wanted to get it right. Doing the tuning by yourself, you are under such pressure and stress.

I agree and that is what I am doing. All though it is a more than a "little" bit of an increase in this case. They wanted $70.00 for three passes with the fuel / oxygen readings or $120.00 for an hour where they do the tunning for you (with as many passes as are possible).

Are these prices reasonable in comparison to what you paid?
