Dyno Tune Worth It For N/A???

A good tuner can find somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-30 ft lbs. and 15-20 hp from a lightly modded N/A car...maybe more. If that's worth it to you, do it. Some will say it's not worth it, but that's their opinion. I just ordered my chip through SCT, and I'll be having Jerry dyno tune me sometime this summer. It's all about getting the most out of your current configuration. For me it was a no brainer, what with an automatic and 4.10's, I needed a chip anyhow.

Good Luck!

Thanks guys, so I take it I will need a chip before I get the tune??? Why do I now feel so stupid??!!!

I think you either get the chip or you get a tune. The chip gets tuned to your car, or you can have your car's computer tuned. I think the good thing about a chip is you can have different tunes on a chip. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe you should get gears, then get a tune. :D

You can either buy a chip or have your stock computer reflashed. Both can be dyno tuned. The reflash is nice cause a dealer can always tap into the ECU and run diagnostics.

Many chips don't offer more than one tune. As far as calibrating the speedo, you can always ask to have the chip calibrated for 3.73 even if you don't plan on installing them for another month.

I am SO considering the SCT Pro Racer Package, must be awesome to tune your own car yourself  The 4 bank chip they provide also allow up to 4 tune beside the stock one. For example, you could run on the stock or a slightly more agressive tune on 87 octane and simply flip the switch when you go to the track with 94. Also nice for people with nitrous ! :hail2:

With that said, T&J Performance can also do wonders with a simple reflash.

what are you current mods?

Magnaflow catted X, Magnaflow catback, K&N cone filter, and steeda underdrive pullies. I am looking at 4:10's or 3:73's in the future, leaning towards the 3:73's for a future blower purchase. :flame:

Would I get the gains people are saying, or should I just wait?

Well you got exhaust and pullies. A tune can definitely take advantage of that plus add timing...so yes I would look for a tune.

Do you know what your at now in terms of rwhp?

Don't waste your money now. wait 'til you get the gears and do it then. That way they can fix the speedo at the same time. otherwise you'll have to pay to have the chip reburned.

No, I have never had the car dyno'd. I would guess something like 238 rwhp. But then again I don't know. I sure wish it was more than that, probably somewhere in the area of 398 rwhp! :worship:

I dont' want to guess what you'd make with a tune..but if your interested I do suggest you contact a tuner and see what they feel they can offer.

I dynoed at 232 rwhp like its sits ( see sig)
But the car only had 1800 miles on it when I did it.
Some say a car will dyno 15-20rwhp higher after the car
breaks in and has 3-5k miles on it. My car feels alot stronger then it
when it had 1k miles on it. I now have 3300 mi.
I think I should be at atleast 240rwhp?
I would say our cars are similar.
