Dyno'd the Bullitt

Focus pumps don't always flow what they are supposed to - same thing with all pumps, it's slightly different for each individual unit. 6100 is redline in my mongoose kit...and I make power up past 6000 with stock cams/heads.... :flag:

Don't shift so low, shift higher and you'll drop back in higher in the power band. With the 3.27's I have in there now, I would have to rev to 6700 to hit the powerband i would with the 3.55's I used to have haha - installing 3.73's in a week or so though... :nice:

Yea well I have 3.73s

I don't really get into boost too often, but when I do I grin everytime. :D

^^^i compared both dyno graphs, the 370/370 and the 393/377 from yesterday. In the original dyno when the kit was first installed, the pump was fine throughout the entire rpm range. Fast-forward to yesterday, and its out of gas (i kill myself) @ 5800. My guess is that the Bassani X may have leaned out the A/F a tad, and since the FP was already @ max duty cycle, it had nothing left to compensate. That or my pumps about to take a dump on me

So, I think given Tims impeccable track record, and the hundreds of Mongoose kits out there with the Focus pump, its safe to say the pump is well suited for Mongoose kit applications. But (I think) as you approach the limits of a stock 2V bottom end, you definitely want to check the A/F and upgrade the fuel system via BAP, or other means.

And yes, the car had ONLY the mongoose kit and 3.73s when it dyno'd @ 370/370. The only thing Ive done is add the catted Bassani X and it put down 393/377, 386/370 SAE. Stock headers, stock cat-back. So I gained 16rwhp with the X-pipe, and actually didnt lose any Torque. I make peak powa @ 5800 rpm, so I need to take it to 5900-6000 at the track. I think the power Im putting down really speaks volumes for the Bullitt Manifold too.

Bassani with cats = deep n throaty :nice:

The xpipe won't directly lean it out, it will however allow the engine to flow more air. Under normal conditions if your maf was sized correctly and tuned the car would have addapted to the extra air and added more fuel, but in your case, the fuel pump couldn't keep up. I know you are throwing these new numbers around, but I hope you realize, that with your a/f ratio back down to a conservative level they are not going to be that high. More like in the 375, 380 range.

My A/F has always been right around 12. If you dont think its tuned correctly, take up that issue with Tim.

12 and below is considered conservative. I didn't say there was anything wrong with your tune. I am saying the majority of your gains are caused by your lean spike. Once you get the fuel pump issue fixed the gains will not be that high.

But he isn't compensating for the leanness by detuning it, he's simply going to throw in a BAP to get more fuel in. Will this STILL bring the gains down?

Yes it has nothing to do with the tuning. The gains are caused by the 13:1 a/f ratio spike. Look at the dyno graph, and watch how the power starts to flatten out, then when it goes lean, the power and torque rise and follow the a/f ratio. Once the pump issue is fixed it will follow the same path it was on and end up around 380 uncorrected.

I see what you're saying, that makes sense. But I'd rather take the decrease in power for the increase in reliability and peace of mind.

Nice #'s.:)
My guess is the pump is just getting weak over time. I have cars making 420rwhp and still not out of pump.
A bAP is a good idea @ this point to keep her safe.

A/F looks good other than the lean out @ the end. Enjoy, but be careful until you get the bap installed.

The guys @ Dyno Sped are nice guys. We have met them a few times @ KOTS.

yeah, it kicked in what you meant about 5 minutes after I posted my reply and went to work. It sounded as though you meant 12 was too high across the board. I get what you're saying. I know my #'s wont be as high, but Im also doing an 8-rib kit to (hopefully) eliminate the belt-slip around 5500, so I hope that will put me somewhere around 380-385. (the car made peak power @ 5800 when it was originally tuned)

nice number helty, made 20 more hp with the x pipe. how come you dont have the bassani cat back on there?
I sold it after buying the Bullitt. :( Needed the extra cash too

OMG.......Tim F'n Barth just posted in a thead I started :jaw:
haha, thanks Tim. Joe and John are awesome, and they spoke highly of you too. Joe showed me a bit of what goes into a tune, how you never let the timing get over 15* on a blown GT, and all that other stuff. It was really cool to actually see all the data played out throughout the rpm band. Very interesting stuff! Thanks for the kick ass tune, even though someone else payed for it :)

I'm done racing the car this year, so it wont see an rpm above 3500 until next spring (yeah right :D ). Im hoping to have Dynospeed install the BAP sometime in December.

First off, want to say that the car sounds GREAT :hail2: .

Second....
HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dude 13-1 A/F.....SUPER LEAN. LOL Not to discourage you or anything, but once you fix the A/F problem your power will go back down into the 370s or so. If you notice, power was leveled out @ around 37X and starting to go down @ 5700...then it ran out of fuel @ 5800 and power jumped way up, but a mirror image was the A/F leaning out. Thats why it jumped to to 393. Lean = mean Rich= safe

Personally I would not take the car anywhere over 5800 until you get that BAP....your much more likely to have detonation being that lean, and these darn pistons dont like that haha.

Good luck with it man, and id love to see you get an IC for that baby....definatly add some nice powa! :nice:

(NOTE: KB BAP W/ focus fuel pumps have been known to kill fuses...the one that controls your FMU I believe. Basically the focus pump pulls ALOT of load as it is, and with the BAP it overloads the fuse. SO you may need to up the fuse AMP rating a bit or ditch that fuse and upgrade the wiring and add an inline fuse.)

EDIT: Looks like I said the same thing as Jstreet LOL....I didnt read all of the posts. SO dont worry about what I said...as its already been addressed.

^^power just just coming in around 3700, you're looking @ the torque curve. The car made peak power @ 5800 when Tim tuned it. If you notice, I also have a bit of belt slip right around 5500. The car started running lean @ 5800, the power didnt jump until just before 6k. Belt slip. I know the power wont be in the 390s when I correct the fuel issue, but I think 380 is attainable w/o slippage.

and for the last time, Im not completely retarded. I promise I wont take the car to WOT anytime soon :)

"Dur dur dur dur dur" *Helty hitting himself in the chest*

:rlaugh: J/K mang....I didnt thing you would, but you would be suprised at what iv seen people do...i dont think its worth not mentioning if I could potentially save someones motor. :nice:

OHH ok so thats why the power dipped @ 5500-5600..freegin belt slip. Yea I agree you should make 38X after all of thats fixed.
