E-brake Question on disc swap

I have a friend who just put svo brakes on the back of his 84 GT, and still has no ebrake. So who knows how to mod the ebrake handle for a fox body with rear disc conversion? i've heard something about removing the recoil spring from the assembly, but the site that he used to go to for that info has up and disappeared. He's got all the parts: front threaded cable, rear cables, and a spare ebrake handle...now just need to know how to mod the handle to have a functioning ebrake-Texas state inspection item, ya know...

Make SURE you insert the small cable into the handbrake assembly BEFORE you weld the pawl. Its a bitch to get inthere once its welded!

How do you get it to release right.
I have a compleate svo brake system on my car. But the e-brake will not release right.
i have to go under the car and pull them out about 1/4 " on each side.
Any help here would be great as I hate to set it now!

If you guys are using the SVO or Mark VII ebrake setup, you really should use the 84-86 SVO cables instead of the FMS Cobra brake conversion cables. The SVO cables have a return spring with the cable so it will release the brakes, just like the stock setup. I got my 86 SVO cables from Autozone for about $18 each and they included the springs on them. They were Pioneer brand cables. I did have to cut off the old "U" shaped end from the Mark VII cables and cut a slit in it to install it on the new cable. Then I used JB Weld to seal the slit back up.

Here is a pic of my cable with the spring on my modified Mark VII brakes with Ranger/Aerostar axles:

That's what mine are also.
Still won't release all the way!
Any other ideas?

So you have to pull back on the levers on the calipers to release the brakes? Sounds like there might be a problem with the internal part of the ebrake mechanism. If the cables are adjusted right, with the lever just barely off the stop on the bracket when released, and the cables are not binding, that would be my next guess.

Mine have worked fine up until a month or so ago. And they have released just fine. Now they don't quite hold unless I pull the lever 3 or 4 times hard. I hope I just have to adjust it some.

I just found out how to adjust the cables.
I'm going to to this tomorrow.

hey guys the help is much appreciated-i'm the guy that was having problems with his newly installed rear svo brakes...i got the cables installed-i also came to find out the original ebrake handle on my '84 is already setup to be adjustable and was a perfect fit for the svo cables. so i spent $20 for the cable and another $25 for the handle needlessly-on the flipside of that-do you know anyone who needs one that's already modded? i've got the cable and clevis with locknuts already installed.

i'm having the same problem though with the brake not completely releasing, and yeah, i used 86 svo spec cables courtesy of advance auto parts. i have to get up under and pull the levers back about 1/4" as well. the springs are installed on the cables though, and they seem to be fine...

the other problem now is that the right rear disc makes noise-like god awful moaning-when i take a left turn-almost like the caliper is "hanging" or something

anyway....any suggestions?

According to the M2300K directions, you NEED to modify the parking brake handle to keep the rear brakes from hanging up. The spring needs to be cut and the pawl welded. You can look at ford Racings websites for directions too. Also do you have the anti moan brackets out back?

I DIDN'T use the M2300K conversion kit, I upgraded my POS factory rear drums with SVO assemblies. I did however acquire a '87-up ebrake handle ass'y...it was different from my original handle which has NO return spring, and NO self adjuster. until i pulled my console off, i didn't know that. Apparently pre-'87 models were equipped with an ebrake handle that required periodic adjustment. so i didn't need the newer ebrake handle, which does have the spring removed and the self-adjuster pawl welded.

now back to my other question-does anyone know how to "properly" install and bleed SVO calipers? my right rear seems to be hanging....i referred to my shop manual, and it has instructions for changing the pads on the SVO rear brakes, but NO PIX. it says something about loosening a "caliper end retainer." what is that? I can plainly see the caliper mount pins, and the parking brake lever, nothing else. it mentions that if i get brake fluid in the park function portion of the caliper, then it has to be rebuilt. it also mentions "screwing" the piston into the caliper-here's where I proclaim my ignorance to rear disc calipers. Should I have screwed in the pistons prior to installing them on the axle? does the park brake lever need to be up or down when bleeding?

any help would be greatly appreciated...
