Im about to get my long tube headers from hooker (1 3/4's) and some guy was telling me that its easier to install the headers after the motor is in, but ive ALWAYS heard just the opposite, that i should strap them on the motor when i lower it in.. since this is my first time for headers and a motor rebuild, could someone point me in the right direction please?

When I installed my 1 3/4" LTs I slid them as from underneath as the motor was dropping in...

Yep, thats the bestway. One mine went in easy from the top, the other, easy from th ebottom, both with the motor about 3" off the mounts

Unbolt the block, lift it up about 3-4 inches. You can wiggle the passenger side in from the top but it's probably easier to go in from the bottom on both sides. I also had to unbolt my starter to get the header past it, also my steering shaft had to be taken out and routed through the driver's side header. All in all it was a PITA but well worth it. I'd recommend throwing on some new motor mounts if you havent already, since you're going to be lifting the motor anyways.

Oh yea.....I speed read so cut me some slack..lol I dont think LTs would fit past the shock towers bolted on, but that's just a guess. I say try it out and let us know if it can be done.
