Easiest Way to replace the Fuel pump?

you have to drop the tank. EMPTY TANK is the Key... there are some screws around the fuel tank neck. Also there are some from the bottom side too.

Also you will probably need a new filler neck seal.

I gotta tell you .......................

I was not looking forward to that job when I did mine. :notnice:

It turned out to be about twice as easy as I was expecting. :D

Pretty straight forward.

Don't make any sparks! :nono:

Use some brass material or wood to loosen the ring thing. :nice:

Good Luck :)

I have to agree with Grady, easy as pie, Nice to have a extra set of hand though, Make sure to change the filter sock on the pump....

Im in the process of doing mine and i cant get the ****ing ring to budge i think it is rusted in there.. any1 have any ideas as to what to do???????

Try and get things really clean around the ring first.

Then try something to soften & lube the gasket.

I can't stress enough the no sparks thing. Over the years I've been on these forums, I've seen several talk about fires starting. Please be safe here.

One last thing ....................

Since you are having trouble with that big o-ring gasket ............

You'll most likely have to round up a new one with the method I gave above.

Good Luck :D

Hell I did it with a friend and half a tank left and it was still pretty easy, just got alittle wet :owned:

Go to the autoparts store and buy a pump to pump it all out and do it totally empty.

Did you try PB blaster on the ring? I would try that. I only have steel punches so I used a rubber thing to keep it from sparking.

how do i find to write up?
It is contained in the first thread at the top of this page (it says something like "How-To Sticky).

The write up is by David (5Spd GT) and covers things fairly decently, though it was written from when he did the pump on his Fox IIRC. He had a NE in the past so dont hold me to that. Certainly a good resource nonetheless (he has part numbers and stuff listed).

Where did you guys find a brass center punch i have been went to homedepot and autozone today and both did now have one. Also i need a new ring autozone said probably only the dealership. where did you guys get yours???

Forget the punch!

Just go over where they keep the raw stock of materials like straps of Aluminum, threaded rods and the like.

Pick yourself out a length of some kind of brass stock and use it as a punch.

Must think out side of box Grasshopper :D
