Has anyone used Eastwood's Tin-Zinc Electroplating System? Eastwood claims that their system will plate bolts and parts with a corrosion-resistant protective plating that resembles chrome. Would this be the same thing as the chromate coated bolts that company's sell? Please let me know if you have used this system or have heard any good or bad comments about it. I am looking for a long lasting protective plating for all my bolts, washers and nuts that on used on my cars' chassis. Thanks.

They are not as strong. I want to use grade 8 hardware.

Just a thought....I dont see where you would really need grade 8 hardware...unless its for your heads, motor mounts, or trans to block bolts. Not many olther bolts have a lot of stress on them.

anyway, im interested to see the results of this kit also. Try caswellplating.com...forums.

I bought the Eastwood kit, hoping to do the same thing. I was disappointed in the results, I never was able to get the shiny look I wanted, even silver spray paint was closer to original. I then bought a Caswell set, and have been very pleased with the results. I bought the zinc plate kit with the brightener, it cost a bit more, but was worth the extra money. To get the best results, I used their heater (looks like an aquarium heater) and an aquarium air pump that circulates air in the bucket. it is all explained in the book, they are very knowledgeable, and they answered all my questions I had over the phone. It took a little experimenting to get it going the first time, but when you figure out how long to leave the part in the solution, the plating goes on pretty smoothly and quickly. Good luck.
