Ebay warning please read!!!

Just wanted to pass along the name of the latest jackass ripping people off on ebay by running false auctions for mustang parts. Myself with 4 or 5 other unfortunate bidders were taken by one Chris McQuay of Ravenden Springs Arkansas. He used the member name ford_mustangracing to run half a dozen auctions ending about 3 weeks ago. We all sent our money and got nothing but funny. Ebay has since removed him as a registered user. No doubt he will sign back up under another user I.D. in the future. He listed this phone number on all his auctions 870-869-1983, and accepted money orders only. I stopped sending in money orders a long time ago for the same reason. Not Mustang parts but still about $100 lost on an eBay auction where I sent a money order.

Personally, anyone who accepts only money orders triggers all sorts of warning bells. Generic PO boxes trigger warning bells too.

BTW, did you mail this person the money order? If so, remember to file a complaint with the Post Office. I think it falls under "mail fraud", and PO takes that rather seriously.

a guy was running a computer scam through ebay one time using a P.O. Box and money orders. he earned like $15k in 1 month and didnt check his box (so he can kinda hide). the cops were watching his box and finally nabbed him when he decided to get the cashola from his mailbox.
the funny part is that my friend got caught up in it trying to buy a new computer from him! luckily he got his $1200 back!

yep, use some sort of electric money transfer service. I'm having issues with a seller on mod depot and my bank reversed the charge from paypal for me.

Thanks for the tip -- I'm on eBay all the time (reenmachine_racing) and will keep an eye out. I always use PayPal for both buying and selling. It's well worth the small fee.

Fraudulent listings pop up all the time on cars as well, where some punter takes pictures and description from some enthusiast (like you & me) web site and makes a fake listing. Usually the price is suspiciously low with a high deposit and no contact phone number. I've seen a number of these and helped get them shut down. This week, we found one where the guy stole the pics and info from my dad's shop's site! (www.karmustang.com) Needless to say, he contacted eBay and had it stopped. If you send a money order get one from the post office and mail it with the delivery conformation or registered mail. That way the person can't say it was stolen since he would have to sign for it.
