Looking to find out if a 2000 mustang 3.8 Ecm without the security chip will work in a 2001 mustang 3.8 with a security chip, Got the car for parts but the engine and trans are unknown would like to pull it to swap into my 95 if its good but unable to start it as have no keys but have a 2000 mustang that Im swapping body panels too so have that ECM that is good and could swap in , Anyone try this or know a way to get car started without the chip key or if this would work.

Thanks Bill

PATS works by initializing the Instrument cluster to the ECM. You then program the keys to the cluster.

You can use ForScan to do this yourself. What you'd do is go into PATS KEY PROGRAMMING and initialize the IC (instrument cluster) to the ECU. Once that's complete, perform the PATS key programming to pair two keys to the cluster. The vehicle should start then provided all the parts are compatible.

As for the ECM with PATS removed. I can't say if that can be moved around with initializing a new cluster to it.
